let’s discuss again
what a colossal f-up if NHL players can’t go play.

I think the biggest issue from the NHL and NHLPA perspective is ice quality as opposed to the ice surface being slightly shorter … also that all the locker-room/medical facilities are up-to-snuff
Two weeks left before the roster must be named and Bedard looks unlikely to make it as his injury won’t even be re-evaluated until January. That bodes well for Celebrini, who was probably likely to make it anyway.
I do expect Scheifele to make it and it is kind of a no brainer, but you never know. Jonathan Toews, who has now see Scheifele play up close, is of the opinion that he should make it, although some might say he is biased. Interestingly the article states that despite being a near rookie and playing on Canada’s 4th line at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics along with Brendan Morrow, Mike Richards and a rotating Patrice Bergeron, Toews led Team Canada in scoring at that Olympics. I don’t really remember much except for Crosby’s golden goal.
Seth Jarvis hurt last night and it appears serious enough that he wouldn’t be able to play for Team Canada even if he was elected. There has been much debate about the last 5 forward spots it us unknown whether Jarvis had one of them and he was a healthy scratch for a 4 Nations game. Personally I wouldn’t have him on the team and certainly not at the expense of Scheifele.
As both Jarvis and Bedard appear to be out of the mix due to injury management’s job just got a little easier.
A nasty collision with the goalpost:
Other than the goaltending i have no problem with the Team Canada roster selection, they’re stacked . None of the three goaltenders chosen are elite but that doesn’t mean Canada can’t win gold, goalies can get hot in a short tournament. The glory days when Canada had Roy, Brodeur, Luongo, Fleury or Price to choose from are long gone.
The one player I wonder about is Stone.
He was one of the slower players in the 4 Nation.
I would rather Bennett, or Schieffle.
USA will probably kick their asses now
marchand and stone are meh. tom wilson?
Not even quite an NHL-sized ice surface, speed shouldn’t be a problem for a player as smart as Stone
Yup. A couple less strides for him when he is on the ice.
Hopefully he’s not sitting on the bench grasping for air when he gets off the ice.
Yeah because he only plays 19 minutes a night for Vegas … ![]()
So what does he bring to Team Canada?
Did not see much out of him in the 4 Nations.
As I said, I would rather Bennett or Schieffle than Stone and his 19 mins with Vegas ![]()
Marchand is tied for 10 th in NHL scoring, can kill penalties, play the PP, and take a regular shift, very versatile player. Wilson is one of the extra forwards so will likely only see the ice if there is an injury, pretty good player as well.
Experience, smarts, defensive play … and still averages 27g, 48A per 82 games … fair to have opinions and preferences but there isn’t a Rob Zamuner obvious bad type choice this time
I expect there is a fair chance Wilson plays at least some to be ready for any games against the USA if they are playing rough & tumble.
there’s so many good players that canada and usa could pick two teams each
Yes that is a possibility but the thing is international reffing is totally different than NHL reffing. The stuff you saw off the faceoff between Canada and the US at the 4 Nations Cup won’t be happening. If it does the players involved are kicked out of the game and could be in line for further discipline. Wilson can definitely bring the shake when it comes to physical play though and can score as well.
Agree with you here.
Almost double the Penalty Minutes of Marchand. The only guy with more penalty minutes than him on the first page of scoring stats is Rantanen.
With international rules, that makes him a liability if he starts the physical stuff.
