Not sure what changes that you’re referring to as I’m not posting for political reasons. African Americans are a major part of the CFL and the league has given them chances to play football when the NFL has not in the past. Those days are over but the league making sure that African Americans see that the league will embrace them helps in recruitment.
All i can really do is to take your quote at face value and all that black history implies. If his comments were simply about athletes in the CFL then your statement makes sense. Generally speaking things are never that simple with this issue are they?
If he’s not thinking about the CFL in general then I would think that he would be against minorities working in sweat shops etc and how Canadians treated Chinese people when they needed labour to build the railroad back in the day. I would think he would have a stance on those type of things as most people do. “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
He might believe that over time people break the chains of oppression and rise from the ashes. He could believe that if he was a mentor for members of minority groups today then he could help guide them to be the best version of themselves.
That’s what I took from the quote but it’s all speculation.
Polar opposites will have fun debating that guy. Wonder what his final batting percentage was?
Depends on how you see his legacy. He tried to get a better deal from USA broadcasting when he started in 2017 by trying to negotiate with the NFL network. That didn’t work out but the deal with CBS Sports Network was a win (in my opinion). I like the Global initiative but some people don’t. Some people give him slack for not expanding but no other Commissioner has been able to convince a city like Halifax to build a 20k stadium that can host CFL games. I give him a pass for that one.
He wasn’t able to convince the government to give him a loan during the pandemic but I don’t see how he would have gotten one. Unfortunately he’s a poor public speaker so that gave fans the impression that he couldn’t get one because of his presentation. The reality was that the unwillingness to open up the books to the government was more of an obstacle.
Genius Sports was most likely a fail but I believe that was forced on him by the BoG like most things.
Randy went along with some minor rule changes but stepped down before the real agenda was revealed. Most fans who hated Ambrosie suddenly missed him when Johnston dropped his bomb. I always say that sometimes the “Devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.”
Most commissioners get a bad rap because they’re nothing more than a front man (or bag man) for the owners who mostly get away with whatever they want and even more so in the CFL where some fans still think owners own teams out of the goodness of their hearts and to give back to their communities.
Our Hit The Books program officially wrapped up this week.

We welcomed over 250 athletes and coaches from the WHSFL as well as numerous guest speakers including players Jamieson Sheahan & Tanner Cadwallader.
