According to the agenda, the mandate of the replay centre will be reviewed, as will potential changes to year-end awards and All-CFL teams. There will also be discussion regarding the “cascading tactical rules” required to address the last three minutes of each half, a subject that has been hot since the league’s announced rule changes in September.
…
The league is also discussing some additional potential rule changes relating to short yardage plays, possibly to modify or reduce the number of quarterback sneaks and pre-snap penalties that occur in games.
Indeed, ditto YouTube, many more news sites, it’s the way of the world.
I’m probably going to cross the dreaded Rubicon of adding some subsriptions later this year, though still not convinced to pay for premium video that still has exceptions to allow ads plus most streaming video platforms still SUCK here in 2026 and function like it’s still 2021.
But they’ll be low-dollar subscriptions and then hike your subscription rate on me, and well that’s the end of you. Just go charge some of the new people more already.
I’m glad to see the agenda being punished and there’s a lot of interesting items on there.
I wonder how many of these things get brought up every year. For example replacing the exclusive negotiation list with an American draft or changes to OT but they never have enough votes to push them anywhere.
Edit: Nevermind…these often don’t go anywhere
“It was noted in the league’s press release that the list is non-exhaustive and that discussion topics may not lead to any changes. Rules changes are discussed each year at this event, though this marks the first time the agenda is being published.”
the only paid sport subscription i get is the Athletic and it’s well worth it for the NFL analysis and articles. The NHL and other stuff is decent too but I mostly just read the NFL related content, and there is a lot.
Well at least they are talking about improving…strict rules.
“Cascading tactical rules” - Okay, this could either be exciting and new for the better, preferably preserving the old, or a train wreck. The phrasing here is troubling for me though, so they should at least come out of the meeting fixing at least that.
Short-Yardage Plays - Interesting here as to what they will do, and though there is no actual Tush Push in Canadian football line up one full yard off the ball, I wonder if they were inspired via the negative recent experience in the NFL, where the NFL is extremely likely to ditch the play after this season.
Overtime - Yes, please adjust and ditch this damn high-school scrimmage ball format. That’s where it originated too, and it was also in Kansas of all places!
Replay Centre - FIOFO, enough already
American Draft - I like it! Screw you too UFL!
Olympics - I don’t give a shit.
Playoffs - Please offer full-league seeding so as to determine home field! Or at the very least, have it such that any team qualifying without a winning record does NOT get a home playoff game at all.
Contingency Planning due to Inclement Weather or Air Conditions - Much improvement overdue here
When you say screw you UFL what are you picturing about how a CFL American draft would impact them? I’m not sure how this would have anything to do with them.
That part implies disagreement to me, but in case I misunderstood, here goes.
I think the CFL learned well its lessons from the 2023 season, when there were two spring leagues in the US, and the quality of play slid noticeably in the CFL, as Jim Barker and others commented that summer, though without citing this root cause (obviously that would not be done on air at TSN) as many of us believed to be the case.
Some disagree here, and some I think are otherwise in denial, but the CFL knows to get ahead of the UFL as well for any of those better players whose agents can see a potential better path to the NFL via the CFL at hand rather than the no-man’s land and false hope of the UFL 4.5 and its current hijinks (see the thread), except quite often for special teams players.
And at the very least, those players stay in the CFL to finish great careers in their own right.
I think perhaps you inferred something that wasn’t there. I’m still not really sure how the institution of an American draft affects the UFL though. Is your thought that more or better Americans would come to the CFL rather than the UFL if there were a CFL American draft?
I’m still confused. You didn’t really state reasons why you feel the CFL American draft would result in more or better Americans coming to the CFL vs the current negotiation list system. You’ve certainly established that the CFL getting the best non-NFL Americans and keeping them is a worthwhile goal which I certainly agree with, but I’m missing how you see the draft accomplishing that goal in a way that the negotiation list does not.
You’ve not explained your view at all. Not just not “to my desires”. I’ve asked you very basically why you think a draft would have the effect you believe it would or what you see as the way in which a draft would even operate and you’ve come up empty. I’ve come from a place of genuine curiosity and agreement with the desired goal and you’ve been defensive. I think that’s clear for anyone reading this.
