Non-Alouettes 2026 Talk

AJ is getting some kind of foot or ankle surgery done this month. Covering their bases i think.

As much as I rag on Ellingson, I don’t actually think Danny expected him to be a key cog in the machine. He was a pure desperation signing in case the 2023 recruits came up snake eyes, a signing as much for optics as anything else.

Dave Campbell’s thoughts on the Tre Ford situation.

Thought Chris Jones did not draft Tre Ford for the right reasons. Ford was drafted as an athlete more so than a quarterback.

It was time to move on. Both Ford and the Elks wanted to part ways.

Thinks Ford has a lot of work to do to prove that he is a CFL starter.

Other than going home, Campbell does not know that Hamilton is the right fit for him.

Mentions that Ford needs to beat out Jake Dolegala and Harrison Frost to be the backup to Bo Levi Mitchell.

Thinks the desire from Ford was there. Does not know if the work effort was there.

Ford did not get the trust of the coaching staff that he would ever be a reliable option.

There is a where there is smoke there is fire element to this. I’m not sure who this is your paraphrasing, but one of the things that has been said about Ford since the beginning was that he needed to do more work. I have never heard it said of him that he is a first in the build type of guy. Other he learns that soon, took VA a while to learn that or he’s career will be over soon.

Edit: Jones drafting him for the wrong reasons certainly would be consistent with Jones, the so-called Mad Scientist. More mad than scientist, I’d say.

It becomes clear fairly quickly who’s willing to do the hard work to improve and who wants to just coast on their talent. If you want to lead the team – and QB is one of the leader positions, maybe even the top leader position – you have to model hard work for the whole roster. Ford hasn’t shown that yet. Maybe getting released by Edmonton will be the kick in the ass he needs to find that gear as a Tiger-Cat. We’ll have to see.

Fords style of play is similar to Johnny Manziel. They both go off script and improvise . It’s exciting but it can be taxing on the body. Most coaches like a more traditional QB. If the team is not going to build there offence around there style of play , then it starts to become counterproductive.

Wonder whether they will list MBT as the Als starer?

I think they will 100% be better than their 2025 record. A realistic goal for them is .500 football and a playoff berth, which is almost their 2024 record. They have a lot of new faces, and creating chemistry within the system will take time, particularly on offence.

But the east is hard to predict right now. Feels like any of Hamilton, Montreal, or Ottawa could be in the mix for the division title, and even Toronto will be more competitive than 2025, albeit with a rookie head coach / OC and a DC with exactly one, unsuccessful season of CFL DC experience under his belt.

Big addition for Ottawa

Me semble qu’on dit ça à chaque année depuis au moins 3 ans.

They will have a better team for sure but not convinced that they will have a much better record. The whole bottom end of the league has improved and the top end not so much.

Expect Edmonton and Ottawa to pick up two more wins. Argos one. Bombers are a better team but they got lucky with their schedule last year.

Looks like the Tabbies might drop a game or two. Riders don’t have the same National depth but they coasted the last four games so maybe about one less win. Lions will have better continuity to start the year along with a better defense. They are facing a stronger league so about the same. Calgary could drop a couple more unless they pull off some great recruiting again. Montreal should be better with Alexander playing a full season.

That’s my way to early grasp at straws!

Haven’t read it yet but will.
