Nothing has changed. They play for the love of the game… Inflation affects us all and in both countries pretty much equally. I got a two buck raise… Basically covers my property tax , water and power bill hike. Government workers got nice fat raises but now they are all waiting to see which of them will lose their job.
Except that if we want the league to survive, we have to incentivize players to come in on those entry-level contracts. Otherwise they will just stay in the UFL and not have to deal with the insane hassle of emigration plus the exchange rate gap between US dollars and Canadian dollars. Some players have family in the US and can’t just up and move them up here. You’ll never get those guys to come here for what an entry-level contract costs, particularly given how many GMs seem to view American players (disposable).
I don’t need a CFL QB to make $1 million. I do need the rank and file to be tempted to come up here for the entry-level salary.

LMAO $75k CAD for American players to emigrate. Good luck with that. Very obvious that some of you have no idea what it’s like to emigrate to another country, or to deal with being paid in a currency that is not equal value with your home country’s currency.
Hey, I have an idea. Why don’t you move to another country where you get 70 cents on the Canadian dollar but you also have to support your family back in Canada? What’s that? You don’t like it? Well, move your whole-ass family to that country! I’m sure they’ll be happy to uproot themselves and leave behind everything they’ve ever known so you can get cut after a year because your team wanted “to go in another direction.” At least it’s for a job with long-term stability, right?
And then you wonder why more American players are choosing the UFL, which actually pays less than the CFL.

Une augmentation de 5,000$ soit 7,1% sur 7 ans, 1% par année, c’est minime.
Comparaison 2026 CFL vs UFL, salaire minimum de base:
CFL 70,000$CAS 51,000$USD, pour 18 parties par équipe en saison régulière de juin à octobre, soit 5 mois.
UFL 64,000$USD, pour 10 parties par équipe en saison régulière en de mars à mai en 2026, soit 3 mois.
Avantage de 13,000$USD pour moins de partie 18 parties vs 10 parties, en saison régulière.

À chaque année, il y a des milliers de joueurs qui sortent des universités américaines et les possibilités de faire carrière au football américain professionnel NFL 32 équipes et en 2026 UFL 8 équipes.
Une troisième possibilité, la CFL football professionnel canadien, une recrue peut signer un contrat avec un club de la CFL avec un salaire minimum de bas, pour 5 mois de travail et l’opportunité de prendre de l’expérience du football professionnel et avoir en essai dans la NFL, dans la fenêtre prévue à cet effet et ceci dès première année de son contrat de 2 ans, puis également par la suite.
Chaque recrue prend sa décision en fonction des possibilités qui se présentent à lui.
Au niveau carrière, la CFL est plus intéressante que la UFL.
ex: T. Philpot N repêché en 2022, salaire 2026 275,000$ CAD soit 200,000$USD.
A. Mack contrat 2023 avec les Alouettes, à son retour en 2024, salaire de 211,000$CAD soit 158,000$USD et il a décidé de vivre à Montréal.
D’autres possibilités de carrière professionnelle en 2026, pour les recrues: IFL, football américain intérieur et les ligues de football américain au niveau international.
Si le salaire minimum/ de base avait augmenté en ligne/accord avec l’augmentation du max. du cap, il serait de l’ordre de $81,000 en 2026. Il me semble que l’Association des Joueurs aurait pu demander/exiger que le minimum de $75,000 s’applique en 2026 au lieu de $2027.
Ce salaire minimum/de base ne s’applique pas automatiquement aux nouveaux joueurs Américains; en effet, ces nouveaux peuvent recevoir n’importe lequel montant supérieur à $70,000. Fort probablement que certains nouveaux joueurs Américains signés ont reçu $80,000 ou plus.
Le salaire minimum/de base s’applique sans exceptions au nouveaux joueurs Canadiens repêchés; ceux repêchés en avril prochain recevront un salaire minimum/de base de $70,000; ils auront droit à des incitatifs/bonis pouvant atteindre $15,000.

I’m not going to get into the emigrating debate again, but I will say American players have a choice. No one is putting a gun to their heads to come and play here. They come for the love of the game and because some of them (all of them?) think the exposure will give them a shot at the NFL.
For what it’s worth, I think the minimum salary should be $100,000. It should come off the QBs and other star salaries, if needed. That’s roughly $70,000 U.S., which isn’t a fortune but is better than low-paying American jobs. The other thing no one has really mentioned is good American players don’t tend to make the minimum for very long.
Careful on the broad assertions, Hfxtc. Not sure which government workers you are talking about but, I’m one of them and I am losing my job soon. There was no fat raise, just a nice layoff notice.

À chaque négociation pour un contrat de travail ou une convention collective, on vise une amélioration de la précédente et une modification de certains points.
Les dirigeants de l’Association prennent définitivement des notes comme les gouverneurs également.
C’est une nouvelle triste et difficile que de perdre son emploi.
Je souhaite de pouvoir te trouver un nouvel emploi qui correspond à ta formation et ton expérience, dans les meilleurs délais.

In the CFL you get paid based on merit. Working for the fed you get paid based on time served. They claim they get paid based on what they know! In the real world you also have to be productive.
Six months actually but they do have to put in many hours in the offseason. Teachers count that as work.
