Ok, got that wrong: it’s official, Peterman will join Einarson team as Lead and vice.
The obvious move with Birchard finally stepping up to 3rd stones and Burgess taking her place at 2nd. Personally, I would have left Burgess at lead where she mounted a spectacular record this season. Peterman is a natural 2nd so don’t know whether she’ll be able to embrace being a lead player.
On a slightly negative note (WHO ME?) Peterman is a listless on-ice presence, same as Sweeting and Einarson. Birchard has some personality but she’s fairly docile, too. Only pepperpot on that team is Burgess.
Dunstone goes down to the men’s Goat Edin.
Vic Rauter calls it a career at 72.
As noted earlier in the thread Russ is no spring chicken at 70.
Wouldn’t be shocked to see Sweeting go back to skipping and instantly becomes a top 3 team in Canada.
The state of women’s curling isn’t great. If Homan stays together which I suspect they will for at least another year how do they not easily win another Scotties. If I’m Rach that’s all I’m thinking about. Cleaning up the next two Scotties to be the undisputed Canadian Goat and probably another 3-4 slams to go with it. There’s nothing in Canada to challenge them
Yep - Raytch’s problems aren’t in Canada. She dominates under-powered and weak strategy teams like no one else. If she keeps the team together, she should be able to cull another 2 or 3 STOHs in next 3 or 4 years . . . . . then a final run at Olympic gold. The new Swiss supergirls replaced their super-women easily - they pretty much demolished a glum and indifferent Einarson. In there’s Raytch, the incredible shot-pelter and then there’s everyone else. Einarson a distant 2nd in Canada - as long as Raytch is there - Einarson is hunting silvers. After Kerri a ton of ‘Who Knows?”
Both 72 yr old Vic and 70yr old Russ have had great runs.
Wouldn’t surprise me if TSN uprooted their curling coverage, perhaps losing almost all their on-air personnel including Cathy Gauthier and Jo Courtney plus retiring Russ.
Where would they draw replacements?
Gushue would be my #1 pick for color man, possibly even play-by-play. I’d pass on the kid currently doing morning draws, Mudryk.
Go over to Sportsnet and offer contracts to Jennifer Jones and K-Mart. Wouldn’t touch Reid Carruthers for commentary either. I would however, consider E.J. Harnden who just played his last competitive curling game.
The Val Sweeting answer….. perplexing
Forgot about Lenentine. Wasn’t she part of the long disbanded Mackenzie Zacharias team? Who is Kayla McMillan?
Obviously, Val feels more comfortable at 3rd position than returning to the helm.
It looks like Tirinzoni retired just as you figured @Nasty-Nate
Dunstone’s new second is Mark Nichols it appears, nice pickup.
Goldstone (Dunstone) is replacing a retired 42 yr old, worn out man with a 47 yr old guy who’s best years were playing third for a curling genius named Goo (Gushue)
No question Nichols has all the shots, good team guy, not quite as strong a brushman as EJ Harnden but the 5 yr age differential kind of bothers me.
Obviously, as Brier champion DUnstone already has return tickets to next year’s Brier as defender. Dunstone and Colton Lott are now one of the most formidable back ends in Canadian Curling history. Love their dynamic. Yeah, they couldn’t put away Nikolaj Ehlers in the World final - but EHlers was putting the stones almost exactly where he needed to = SHOT AFTER SHOT> No one would beat a monster like that, that day!
As for Savanah Tirinzoni, the time had come. She got as much out of the game as any woman in recent curling history. Amazing story - but her merger years ago with Alina Paetz insured Swiss domination of the roaring game. Paetz and Selina the lead are now scavenging for new players. I’m sure they’ll come up with good ones.
