What an outstanding article.
This is genius-level and a concept, “team defense” as it was called on and off for years, used by historically very successful defenses in the past, including those for teams that were able to hoist the trophy such as the ‘85 Bears, ‘86 and ‘90 Giants, ‘03 Bucs, ‘01 and ‘13 Ravens, and ‘14 Seahawks for their first title via the Legion of Boom.
Team defense is also a concept that works analogously well in all other codes of football, even at lower levels of league play.
Team defense also takes an intense amount of study and practice to learn to execute instinctively, and that time is over and above all other practice and training. There is no shortcut, and the additional work must be put in to learn and execute it with the right players.
