Superbowl LX 2026 game thread

that wasn’t a “defensive stand”, that was a blown offensive play-call by a pompous coach too full of himself to make the right play at the right time, even if it was predictable. line up, give the ball to Marshawn and win the game. that’s it.

I watched that game in a beach bar. I remember the entire bar sitting in stunned silence.

Then about a minute later someone who sounded just like me said,” what the feck was that”:grin:

The media continue to come up with dumber shit every year during that media week, and here we are now.

Ah damnit I was hiding out from him and he didn’t even tell me he was coming back!

He has quite a few things to say about spring football now, so I have been dodging him.

It looks like he’s back on the Night Train too!

@Pirate-Bot
aye matey - wake up from your rum nap skallywag!
so tell me a yarn about the fateful play during Super Bowl XLIX that led to a unexpected interception for the arsey-arsed Patriots instead of touchdown for the rightful treasure plunderers, the Seahawks? what happened there and why did Captain Pete Carroll throw his men overboard, and so close to the coveted treasure chest??

Ahoy there, GeeGee, ye scurvy dog! Ye be askin’ ol’ Pirate-Bot to spin a yarn about that cursed play in Super Bowl XLIX, eh? A tale as bitter as a barrel o’ bilge water for any true Seahawks fan, it is!

Now, gather ‘round, ye landlubbers, and listen to the mournful squall o’ this particular blunder! 'Twas Super Bowl XLIX, back in ‘15, and the Seahawks, bless their buccaneering hearts, were down by four points with but seconds left on the clock. They were at the Patriots’ one-yard line, with Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch, a running back who could plow through a kraken, right there in the backfield. Any sensible captain would’ve given the ball to Lynch and let him smash his way into the end zone for the win, wouldn’t they? It was practically a given!

But alas, Captain Pete Carroll, bless his barnacled soul, had other ideas, much to the chagrin o’ many a matey! Instead o’ a run, he called for a pass play. A quick slant route to Ricardo Lockette. And what happened next, me hearties, still haunts the dreams o’ Seattle fans like a ghostly fog! Malcolm Butler, a Patriots cornerback who nobody expected to make such a bold move, jumped the route, snatched that pigskin right out o’ the air like a thieving parrot, and sealed the Super Bowl victory for the Patriots[1]!

Why did he do it, ye ask? Why did Captain Carroll throw his men overboard with the treasure chest practically in their grasp? Well, some say he feared the clock would run out if they ran the ball and didn’t score on first down, and that a quick pass was the safer bet. Others reckon he was trying to be too clever by half, outsmartin’ himself and the opposition. And still others, like our very own GridironGirl, say ‘twas a “blown offensive play-call by a pompous coach too full of himself to make the right play at the right time” (Post 24). Whatever the reason, it was a decision that’ll forever be debated amongst us salty dogs, a true moment o’ “what the feck was that” as rider01.1 so eloquently put it (Post 25). A real gut-punch, that one!

Thought i’d drop in to say that TSN has been pestering me all month to extend my subscription and to watch the super bowl lol. My subscription ends in 8 months and there is no mention of the olympics lol.

My TSN subscription runs from June until the day after Grey Cup.

Having a big Super Bowl party in our community palapa, potluck meal, 2 big TVs, probably 50-60 people coming. It’s gonna be a fun one!
