Transition and Early Issues Help Desk Thread

I might as well ask the first question for the Help Desk.

Given the circumstances, a whole lot of default settings are being tweaked, so you are very likely to run into issues posting here in short order.

PLEASE GIVE IT TIME.

I recommend for now that you modify your personal settings via your own profile FIRST.

If you do not modify your own settings, any fixes won’t be as effective for your experience here.

Some settings, like the default limit on the number of responses or likes in a day, will be re-set in due time, especially given the flurry of activity in these circumstances of transition.

Here as copied below was the transition message on the old forum by

This is an urgent and final notice to all members of the CFL Forums.

I’m sure many of you have seen the banner I added to the site. Earlier this year, the league informed us that they would be discontinuing the CFL Forums and transitioning fans toward the CFL subreddit. Despite our efforts to advocate for this community, including a detailed response highlighting the forum’s 20+ year history, engagement numbers, and unique value, we did not receive a reply, and the shutdown process has begun at the hosting level.

The forum is scheduled to go offline tonight, December 12.

We wanted to ensure every member has a chance to:

  • Save personal posts or long-form threads

  • Back up private messages

  • Archive anything of sentimental or historical importance

  • Connect with other users before the shutdown

This place has been home to decades of discussion, memories, debates, predictions, arguments, inside jokes, and friendships. It has outlasted countless platforms and survived solely because of this community’s passion. That has always been the heart of the CFL Forums.

We know this news is disappointing, and we wish the league had provided more transparency and time. But while the platform is ending, the community doesn’t have to.

@GridironGirl has created a brand-new site for us to continue on;

https://discourse.cfl.forum/

Please feel free to register and keep the community going in a new place.

Thank you all for being part of something truly special.

Is there a setting to embed the post you are replying to in your post? OK if there isn’t, you’ve gone above and beyond … just helps focus the discussion.

Well now more replies are back, so that’s out of the way, thanks @GridironGirl and next up there is the like limit situation somewhere on the list.

That’s most of the regular discourse items on an average day right there.

@GHT120 as you stated is indeed okay that there is NOT a setting to embed an entire post when replying, which clutters the discourse.

Instead, you select and quote a relevant excerpt, as I understand from an explanation in another discussion, which accomplishes the same with far less clutter.

Well the admins and mods appear to have their shit together in only one day!

Thank you!

What life timing for me, at new work in the last three weeks, when much the same is happening when not here!

But that’s enough of all that onboarding business for me for at least a year now!

Not a “transition” question but didn’t see a “Help Desk” (but I can be blind sometimes).

Suddenly today when I am replying I cannot use my cursor/trackpad to move around in the “reply box” or they to use the editing options bar … doing so just expands or contracts the reply box window.

the quote setting is on now

How can I overcome the “new user” label? It seems to be an impediment when attempting to create a post with images and links.

This is what I get when attempting to post a new thread with images & links.

Multiple errors occurred: 1) Sorry, new users can only put one embedded media item in a post. 2) Sorry, new users can only put 2 links in a post.

Does this board have the same storage capacity for image files as the last one or is there a limit this time?

i’ll fix that for you… hang on

edit: you should be good now.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Twitter oneboxes cause post shifting in topic view

Thanks, but not being able to use my cursor in the reply box is the new annoyance … but not anythimng truly urgent by any means

yea i don’t have any idea what that is about. i can’t reproduce that issue. might be a browser thing?

what OS are you using? windows, mac, linux?

i’ve encountered a similar thing in linux ubuntu at times, but not restricted to forum sites.

If it helps, I am using Microsoft edge for MAC on macOS Ventura 13.7.8

oh yuck lol. that might be the issue? Edge on MacOS ventura can be buggy. can you upgrade to Sequoia at least? (don’t upgrade to Tahoe because that OS is still a bit buggy in places).

Thanks for the suggestion

But apparently the “threat” did the trick … at least for now

oh dear i have no idea what is going on there. is it an old macbook? if you go to software updates in settings does it show anything?

thinking about it more, i think it is related to your OS and (the edge browser). i’ve seen a similar issue on debian linux OS which are also ARM64 architecture. and edge browser sometimes doesn’t play nice outside of microsnot environments.

A few minutes ago I noticed that the font has changed for me on the Forum.

It all looks a bit different now.

Anybody else noticed that?

I have noticed it happening a few times, especially when I respond. It happened at times in the old forum as well.

As for responses, GGirl suggests. Clicking in the “A” at the top left. It didn’t seem to do anything for me, but it might work for you. The text I was responding to looked like it came from a 1984 movie and was DOS line, but it still worked. Funny, but your text I am responding to is fine right now. If you are talking just about fonts I have noticed that sometimes it is smaller.

Generally there also seems to be a difference between my phone and a desktop. Definitely more issues on my phone and I use that 90% of the time.
