Ufl 2026

Maybe its me but watching golf on TV is absolutely dreadful. Its like pickleball or bowling, a fun activity but a bore to watch. I don’t know many under 50 year old who are going to sit around watching golf on a Sunday afternoon when they can just go shag a few balls at a driving range for $20

You are correct, but watching golf is also good for napping on the weekend, especially for those of us over 40 and any parents who can manage to get a break.

I’d rather watch pro golf with some great Canadian players,
Than the U.seless F.ootball L.eague
To each their own

But I told them - outdoor sporting events in much of Florida, especially during peak tourist season and except for spring training for baseball, do not draw well. The same is true for much of the rest of the year during storm season.

Good luck trying to explain that reality of life in Florida to your average overbearing and egotistical East Coaster like Mike Repole too.

I gave up quickly when living down there when those dumbasses scheduled more indoor meetings when the weather was better, as if weather were ever an issue to delay meetings like in the northeast, which they routinely screw up in that part of the country as well.

An invite to most meetings from late March through June generally gets a professional :fu: response from me whenever it could have happened in the dead of winter.

Are there actually that many fans in the stands?

At that point in the 4th quarter, nope. At the start of the 2nd quarter, definitely possible.

For me a sports is a competition against a live opponent, not nature. Golf, bowling, mountain climbing, etc. Can all be fun but to me are activities vs real sports. I’m a football sicko though. I still watch replays from 20 years ago of the AFL on NBC or the occasional Montreal Machine highlights.

For the real sickos, there’s live indoor football on Yahoo sports TV right now.

Ah well I get it. When you are not playing padel or are not telling all your enemies about you to go to hell, especially in New Jersey as I know is a routine part of daily life, you are into such niche sports.

Well, you and others have convinced me to followed the EFA, which we are tracking in that thread. Quit screwing around and pick a team you and others here. It’s on when we start watching that in five weeks.

:pirate_flag:

I don’t play padel or any racket sport or kick around as much or engage in any other rackets now except video piracy, but on a separate basis I do remain active for exercise.

And how do I fill those hours of downtime when not here, like this morning to kick off the day on a fresh mind? Like you, I am watching niche sports, which I do via either YouTube videos or FAST channels.

There’s never in our lives been so many channels for niche sports! There are even channels for Strongman and for Lucha Libre, for example! What a time to be alive!

Middle and next to him on the left are douchebags, and hey good for you it’s live action for something, but Yahoo! Sports is a dumpster fire for all the leftovers from other places and has been basically Dogshit Sports 2.

But hey, credit to them long ago before our era of FAST channels and far more on YouTube and social media for breaking stories that the establishment sports jerks led by ESPN would not break, such as the scandal at the University of Miami.

A post about kickoffs i made earlier today

”Waiting until Tuesday night for the last game in Week 2 SUCKS.

Let’s talk about the UFL’s Kickoff Data!

Through 7 games, we’ve now witnessed 67 Kickoffs. The average kick travels 62.4 yards and the Return Team is typically fielding the ball around their own 7-yard line.

In '25, there were 415 Kickoffs, and by my data, the average starting field position after a Kickoff Return was the 29.4 yard line.

Now, for '26 the league introduced a new Kickoff rule; The Kickoff Team and Receiving Team zones were both pushed up 5 yards, from the 40 + 30 yard lines to the 45 + 35 yard lines, respectively.

This effectively gives the Returners an extra 5 yards of space to read the coverage and fine a lane to exploit. Because of that extra cushion, I predicted the average starting field position would jump roughly 5 yards. Somewhere around the 34-35 yard line.

Through 7 games, it’s jumped exactly 5 yards, to the 34.4 yard line. Who could’ve guessed.

What’s even more interesting to me is the percentage of Kickoffs actually being returned.

In '24, when the UFL used the traditional USFL-style Kickoff from the 20-yard line, 388 of 413 Kickoffs were returned; a KO Return Rate of around 94%.

In '25, the UFL introduced a modified Dynamic Kickoff and saw 367 of 415 Kickoffs returned; dropping that KO Return Rate down to 88.4%.

I’m a firm believer that every football drive should start with a Kickoff Return, and seeing that number dip below 90% was genuinely concerning to me. I made those concerns known to Mike Repole in the preseason and offered my suggested rule changes to get return rates back above 90%. Ideally closer to the CFL, where around 97% of Kickoffs are returned (633/652).

So how’s the return rate looking in 2026?

Across those 67 Kickoffs, we’ve seen;

  • 2 Minor Touchbacks
  • 5 Major Touchbacks
  • 3 Short Kickoffs
  • 1 Kickoff Out of Bounds

That means only 56 of 67 Kickoffs have been returned.

A Kickoff Return Rate of just 83.6%.

Yes, I know it’s a small sample size. We’ll likely see close to 415 kickoffs across the full season + playoffs, and these numbers will shift. But the direction they’re moving in right now is not a good sign.

The trend is going the wrong way, and if it holds, the UFL has a real problem on its hands.”

sounds like you need to get back to the drawing board in your lab and construct the perfect kick returner

honestly, for me - considering there were no preseason games, the quality of football play has actually been even better than i expected, and far better than the production decisions. the commentary, interviews and sideline reporting shenanigans have been bush league at best.
