This is a thread to discuss the CFL prospects for the upcoming draft. Last year 6 of 8, first round picks got starts. 3 of 9 in the second round got starts. King Amber’s from the 8th even got a start.
Ty Benefield is playing in the LA Bowl right now. 6’2, 205lbs, Strong Safety. He isn’t rated on the Scouting list, but could jump up. Could go high in the NFL draft. Translates to a stronside linebacker in the CFL.
Benefield’s a junior so like Ayomanor last year he could be unranked and then number 1 if he declares, but in that case he won’t be highly drafted in the CFL draft (like Ayomanor, probably not at all).
I remember meeting his dad Daved (ex-BC Lion) at a Grey Cup function in 2016. Biggest hands I think I ever shook. If Ty is anything like his dad I doubt he misses many tackles. As another poster mentioned he may have strong NFL prospects so may never get to see him up here.
Been thinking of maybe trying to do a mock draft after the combine or at least the Argo possible picks. Its always quite a crap shoot and if I could get one right it would be a feather in my hat. Lol Its early but the top 4 rounds I wouldn’t mind the Argos picking would be 1) Rene Konga DT Louisville, 2) Giordano Vaccano OG Purdue, 3) Devyan Cromwell DB Michigan State, 4) Rohan Jones TE/FB Arkansas. I do have more confidence in the Argos making some good selections this year with Huff and Barker looking at the prospects now.
I saw. Maybe this is a hot take but I feel like the CFL draft is even harder to predict than the NFL one because of how so many top Canadians have been drafted to the NFL in recent years.
One guy that I’ve heard someone say he likes is Nick Cenacle from Hawaii. He’s from Montreal so obviously they’d love to acquire him in the draft but there will probably be some teams that want WR in the draft.
He had a bit of a step back this year but I agree he still looks like a legit CFL prospect. Recall that Damien Alford also had a step back year in his draft year and he turned in a great rookie year.
A guy I’m intrigued by is Nate Demontagnac out of UND. That conference is no joke and he’s a big physical WR who could shoot up dear boards with a solid combine/pro day.
Thanks for sharing these. I was hoping to see some sort of special teams article from them but it looks like it’s actually included at the bottom of the Offence.
Samuel Tremblay is the kicker listed. I’ve definitely heard of him though I can’t recall if he was ever in a USPORTs program before going to Maine. I think he might have played at a lower level in the RSEQ but can’t find any reliable stats on him from my quick google search.
9/10 on field goals and 35/36 on PATs. Not a bad season at all, though his longest field goal was only 45 yards out.
Some digging on his twitter shows that he does have the leg to make it from 50 yards. Here he is doing it 5 times in a row;
Good find, Nate hasn’t been mentioned in other 2026 prospects but he sounds like he could be of interest to teams. I generally think this type of player is not unknown to the 9 CFL teams but quite possibly his testing numbers are not that great. He has the size but what is his forty time etc.
I don’t know for sure but Pelley may have been let go in Edmonton because they maybe thought he had a weight problem. He’s listed and looks 350 lbs. Tough to play in the CFL if one is a little over weight. I didn’t think he played badly and is still on the roster. I’m sure they would love to sign last year’s top pick Paris Shand and maybe add a good prospect in this years up coming draft though just the same.
I’m interested where he plays when he does come up. He played all across the line in college but seemed to cut down in the pre draft process as he and his agent likely thought his best bet to make the NFL was as a 4-3 DE, but I could easily see him sliding back inside in the CFL as a 275-280 DT which was around where he reportedly played in college.
