is here:
maybe i should do a calendar with the games again
Here are a couple of schedule breakdowns by u/CFLStatsGeek on Reddit.
Here are some things to note:
- Calgary has prolonged home stretches, at the expense of long stretches with no byes.
- Toronto also has long stretches without a bye, but their travel is mitigated by the number of West games early in season.
- EDM, BC, and WPG will be burned by 2 short weeks (4 days b/w games) within a month.
- Having B2B rivalry games cuts down on a lot of travel, with an exception of Edmonton which is doing a lot of West-East-West trips throughout the season.
I’m not sure of their reasoning with having two games at the same time on the last week.
It’d make sense if they were from the same division, since there’d be a possibility that one game’s outcome could affect the play in the other game.
On the latter point, there is the possibility that they will change the game times for one or both of those games, depending on the circumstances.
I am surprised that they they did not simply start the season one week sooner, load the first two weeks with four games in advance of the World Cup, then follow with a few of the weeks of only three games during the conflicting World Cup period from 12 June, when Canada plays, through about 12 July, one week before the final.
The situation will be something else in June if there is also a Canadian team still in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I’d buy that reason. With possible playoff implications the two teams won’t be able to manage their roster according to the outcome of the earlier game. Should have been doing this for years.
Even better in terms of fair play would be to have all four games played on Saturday at the same time. Would settle for two early and two late. As a fan i’d like to watch all four however.
Me too, but the feeling is to the contrary.
I do understand why they had chosen to do the triple-header that weekend, given the NFL opener on Thursday night (HATE IT) and NFL Sunday.
But Friday night is good for one game right!? I’ll catch the third game and part of the second one.
I’m thinking the NFL might try to do a rare Friday Night game out of country. CFL might be avoiding a conflict. It’ll be interesting to see what happens
Yes, that is true going forward with a twist, but we do already know this will NOT be the case next season for the NFL, so to me this is a strange decision for 2026.
Also these games are scheduled one week later than would have been that Friday night NFL conflict had it even been scheduled, which again will not be the case for 2026.
The NFL won’t have an open slot for a Friday night game in the opening week until at least 2029, but who knows if there is some political action so as to allow for any such special event in 2027 or 2028.
It would be nice if the Argos could get two home games during the Exhibition.
A bit disappointed that CFLdb still hasn’t created an excel schedule yet. Will likely have to try to scrape off a website and do it myself.
