I think having 8/9 teams in the playoffs is a little bit silly. I guess it makes a bit more sense if the idea is to expand to 10 teams soon.
The bottom team of a conference should not be getting into the playoffs in my opinion.

Thereâs little point to the regular season if you are basically guaranteed in. Only have to win more games than 1 team.
If it happens more than I think, who cares whether the playoff format changes?
To me, this change actually makes the league more credible by forcing the division winners to win one more game in the playoffs. If youâre really the best, you should beat down that 7-8 seed no problem. If you lose, thatâs on you.
The point of having few teams make it is you have to earn your spot.
Imagine if the NFL allowed 75% of their teams to make the playoffs? Lol
As usual, a whole bunch of fans are missing the point because change is bad, wah wah. Round-robins to establish seeding are commonly used in Olympic sports. The extra round essentially gives bottom teams a fighting chance while providing some extra gate and viewership.
I believe this revised playoff system is the roundabout way of MAINTAINING the two divisions.
I do like the fact that if youâre going to win the grey cup, youâre going to do it by winning 3 games in a row.
Iâm sure that will produce many a great story in the years to come.
Imagine if we had 32 teams and a billion-dollar football industry? Lol
What the NFL does has no relevance here.
You keep harping on âearning your spotâ while failing to realize that those 7-8 seeds arenât earning a spot in the old format.
Thatâs the Olympics they arenât pros (or shouldnât be) and arenât getting paid unless they win.
No way should a team with a 6-12 or 5-13 record make the playoffs.
And they shouldnât. They should be earning the 1-6 spot open.
If the NFL doesnât allow half or more why should we?
Exactly. Itâs what we want. Winning the division is still good, but now you need to win one more time to hoist the Grey Cup. And â we havenât talked about this yet â that path is also qualitatively harder, because your first game of the playoffs isnât against a team that is already beaten up from a previous playoff game. Itâs against a good team that is just as fresh as you are.
89%, actually.
We already have pointless late season games. This will give us about six weeks of them.
We are not the NFL.
Thatâs not the point. Why should do everything to have the same respect as the NFL. This is not it
OMG THE CFL IS BEING AMERICANIZED WHAT EVER THE EFF SHALL WE DO???
BUT
OMG THE NFL DOESNâT DO THIS THING SO WE SHOULDNâT EITHER!!!
With 8 of 9 teams making it to the post season itâs safe to say there will never be draft lottery ![]()
especially love the starting earlier - itâs been a long time coming for that one
iâm thinking they did this because the owners pushed back on the single division travel part simply because of (skyrocketing) costs
Do I understand this correctly? Example: First place in one division plays second place in same division. Letâs say second place team wins. First place now plays the lower seeded play-in game winner and letâs say the first place team wins. They now have the possibility of hosting the same team who beat them the week before. Utterly ridiculous.
