Looks like we have more changes coming in 2027 ![]()
The changes are very interesting, but I am 100% at a loss to understand why they would announce this bombshell ON DRAFT DAY.
8 of the 9 teams make the playoffs. Wow. Gone are the traditional Eastern and Western semis and finals. Iām not against it per se, but itās going to take some getting used to. I kind of like the Victoria Day kick-off.
Beats me. Itās going to totally overshadow everything and everyone is going to have a meltdown about 8/9 teams in the playoffs.
I love the earlier start to the season. Thatās great. Fight NFL viewership as little as possible, beginning and ending on or near two Canadian statutory holidays. Nice.
Stupidest idea yet! So BS
.why should only 1 team miss?
So you have a 6-12 team making the playoffs? Oh hell no.
This is a brain scratcher. Talk about taking the attention off your draft. Couldāve saved it for next week and got more air time.
I initially looked at that and groaned, but given how the playoff format is changing, itās actually fine in substance. You give those bottom two teams a Hail Mary prayer of a game, their franchises one more week of gate revenue, and the slim possibility of an upset. Probably 9/10 times, those 7 and 8 seed teams get defeated resoundingly, but it does make the path to the Grey Cup more meaningful for the division winners.
This format will also make almost every regular-season game more meaningful, even after the top four spots have been decided. That is not bad at all.
We can use the term āIs it May yet?ā
Plus there is a new playoff format. Tired of the one vs. two division argument? Now thereās one that no one will like!
If I understand this correctly.
Top 2 in division play each other for the right to get the bye and host the division finalsā¦makes the regular season mean less IMO.
Loser of these games fall to the division semi.
3rd place onwards gets seeded regardless of division. Seeds 5 through 8 as play insā¦Only 1 team will miss the playoffs⦠again less meaning in the regular season.
Play in winners advance to face the division āloserā. in the semi finals then winners to the Grey Cup.
I like the earlier start but my head is spinning
Oops..I see a dupe thread. please merge
Youāre kidding me, right? This is the most asinine playoff idea Iāve ever seen.
And hey, everyone who moaned about weak teams being seeded higher because of division standing should STFU now. ![]()
Seems like a content play for the next media deal.
If Iām doing the math right, there will be 4 post season games round one (I canāt call them playoffs)
2 games round 2 (old division semis)
2 round 3 and then 1 for Grey Cup.
Now there will be the potential to host 2 playoff games..Are they going to build both in season ticket packages?
Disagree if you only have to beat out one team to get in why bother trying all that much during the regular season??
You could float your way into the playoffs at 9-9 or 7-11 and then turn on the real game and beat everyone.
It makes the regular season relatively meaningless.
Pro sports aināt like that. You canāt float for a month then āturn it onā when it counts, particularly when that floating puts you up against one of the division winners (aka one of the top two teams in the league).
effing awesome. love it.
Absolutely stupid. Sacrifice the 18-game season for a Rube Goldberg playoff format with 89% of the teams making the playoffs?!
i love wars of attrition in sports
Next I can see the elimination of the 2 divisions.
But are they REALLY one of the top 2 teams? Or were the other teams not trying as hard.
And it happens more than you think.
