:als_red: Alouettes 2026 Talk

Reading Mack’s farewell post, I feel for him. Sounds like the team 100% decided to go in another direction. I’m sure he’ll find a spot. Maybe even Hamilton?

We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out, but on paper I think this is a mistake.

You noted last season that they did not seem to be using him in the proper role and suggested that he should be used differently in 2026 to optimize his production/value … as you suggest, guess they just decided to find someone to whom that role is more appropriate

I did note that, but here’s my bet: Mack will have a return to form season wherever he ends up, while we continue to struggle offensively, as we’ve done since Maas took over. I hope I’m wrong! But at a certain point, you have to wonder why we can never be a top-ranked offence (and particularly when our head coach has an offensive background).

On the outside, it sure looks like our offence is where production goes to die. We don’t generate enough points, touchdowns, or time of possession to have more than one one-thousand receiver in any given season, and even getting that one guy there takes effort.

Grosse perte.

I agree … the $64,000 Question is whether that would be any different if Mack were retained … if not, then retaining him would not be money well spent in a cap world.

I don’t consider Mack to be in the same WR category as a Lewis or Lawler, and in hindsight giving him a 4 yr. contract was a mistake.

But he did make a commitment to the team and city, so you have to feel for him and hope he lands on his feet in a positive manner.

And will the recent situations with Sankey and Mack deter free agents from signing longer term contracts with the team?

And after turning the page on Mack, the question now is which prominent free agent WRs do we go after?

That is sad but fair.

My earnest hope is that the new coaching staff spends a ton of time revamping the playbook and rethinking how they call plays, the protections, all of it. I do not want to see a fourth year of us finishing at the bottom of the league in most offensive categories.

I’m a bit late to the party here, but wow. I can’t say I am shocked. I have been one of the fans here talking about his injuries, but I really feel for the guy after moving his family to Montreal and buying a house! This to me shows a lot of what is wrong in the CFL. We signed him to a four year contract, for crying out loud. I know he was displaced by Philpot, but if both Mack and Rambo go, what is the plan? Discover other receivers? Tim White will want more than Mack. Was there no effort to talk Mack into a smal pay cut? I do think this reflects poorly on the org and I don’t think Hollins is the answer. I would have given Mack another season.

Mack is proof that no player should take a long-term deal without substantial hard guarantees up front. Because 9/10 times, this is the result. The player gets kicked to the curb the second the team feels like they can save money at his position.

I agree that this release is a bad reflection on the organization, and it is the first move Danny has made in a while that I flat-out disagree with. (The last one being the decision to trade Vernon Adams in favour of committing to Trevor Harris, who left as soon as he was able to.)

I hope we hear an explanation from Maciocia on the reasons for the release. Not just a standard press release thanking him and wishing him the best.

And perhaps naievely I am going to trust Maciocia on this, and believe he has a plan to improve the receiver room through free agency or perhaps even through the recent rookie signings.

He more than likely will D/P.

We released Austin to accommodate him and allow him to explore his options,” said Danny Maciocia. “We appreciate the seasons he gave us in Montreal, and our lines of communication with him remain open.”

F/A may be wondering if they should sign here or go elsewhere.

That’s just the standard team corporate BS. They only did that after telling him he wasn’t in the team’s plans anymore.

Or that they wouldn’t pay his bonus. We’d love to have you back for $140,000…

It’s also making me wonder, as some here have already noted, whether PKP is instructing Danny to run the team on a shoestring budget.

With guys like Sankey getting released and the cap going up and the Als already being one of the lowest-spending teams in the league, we should have plenty of room to keep players. Particularly since our QB1 isn’t making elite money (yet).

That is an ongoing concern for.

I am not really surprised with the release of Austin Mack. Wishing him the best.

I will be more surprised if Rambo is not re-signed, UNLESS Danny decides to sign a good N player such as Gittens Jr. -Edm.- or Brisset-Tor. if available.
