What I’ve liked about Dedmon was while he was of course elusive, he would power through tacklers once they did catch up to him.
I also wonder if we see Dedmon getting receiver reps. If he is healthy he is a strong returner.
A very dangerous returner but he has only managed to play 42 games over 6 seasons … not certain it is time to assume they will dump Letcher and just hand him the job.
Great news/excellent signing. Je l’avais à l’oeil depuis la publication des agents libres potentiels et plus encore suite à sa libération d’Ottawa.
Présentement, les priorités sont un QA numéro 2 et un receveur canadien numéro 2.
Richard
In 42 games over 6 seasons he has only been targeted 29 times (25 receptions) … doesn’t seem like anything but the usual PR/KR as an occasional change-of-pace receiver
Some interesting intel on DA’s hamstring here. He says he’s on track to be 100% by training camp. Says he’s trying to lose a bit of weight, to be more at 210-212 lbs. rather than 220 (which is what he was last year).
Praises “A-Mack” for what he’s done for the organization. But acknowledges that the game is a “business.” Happy for Mack that he’s been able to reconnect with Cody in Edmonton. “It is what it is but we have a lot of pieces.” Says the org seems to be high on some rookies as well. Mentions that Spieker could thrive from his opportunity.
Danny says DA has had multiple medical appointments the past few days and everything seems to be good and on track. Looking forward to seeing Davis at 100% for May.
Danny says he asked Mack to restructure, said he thought they had a tentative agreement, that Mack wanted to look elsewhere and asked for his release. When asked whether the release was money-related or performance-related, he said both pretty quickly. Wanted to project the core of the team for the next few years. Understands that releasing a guy like Mack might create a hole or two but says it’s his job and the other football ops guys’ job to find solutions.
Asked whether the Mack release was a “monkeywrench,” he semi-jokes that he’ll never be in a tighter spot than before PKP came in, so he doesn’t see anything as a real monkeywrench. Says we were 8 points from another Grey Cup so there’s work to be done.
Says Mack was a good teammate and never created dissension in the locker room. Reiterates this was strictly a business decision. (earlier point he made that what Edmonton paid Mack is an amount Montreal was never prepared to pay, so.)
On Dequoy: no deadline yet but it’s coming. Hopes to have a response from Dequoy in the next few days.
On whether the team has a plan if Dequoy isn’t back: he says the plan is called Beauchemin, Hamlin, and Sutherland. Jokes that it’s not a bad plan.
On whether the “marketing” aspect of Dequoy creates another factor for him: not really. He doesn’t worry about it. Understands that marketing is important but the reality is that you have to put your best players on the field, that we’ll be judged by wins and losses. Says he’s the GM of the Als not a politician who needs to be popular to win elections.
He says he’s proud of all the Quebec-born people on the roster and staff since he took over, but we have to win games. Says Dequoy can still contribute but it’s up to him to decide whether Montreal is the right place for him. (my translation: Dequoy either takes the team’s offer or goes elsewhere and there won’t be negotiation.)

I don’t understand the Dedmon signing. Is the team planning on moving on from Letcher? Do they not remember what he did in 2024?
Something seems to have gone sour with Letcher this past year. He battled injuries, and then seemed to be a bit tentative when he returned. Maybe they’re moving on from him, or maybe this is a kick in the butt to motivate him to compete in training camp?
I like Letcher and would be sad to see him go.
Yea something is up for sure.
Though if they do move on from Letcher, having both Dedmon and Theis to replace him is good in my books!
I don’t think the Als were unhappy at all with Sankey. Like you I don’t like seeing him go but they feel they can make a ratio change at the position by releasing him it allowed him to get a FA period ahead of the rest and negotiate himself a fantastic contract with BC. I would not be surprised if he is making more money than he was with Montreal and I suspect Arku is a cheaper solution who Thorpe feels will add size and physicality to the position. If you look at the Als signings so far, it is all about adding size on defense. Desquoy while fast was a poor tackler. Arku is bigger and more punishing player than Sankey, the team is signing Big Defensive backs. I suspect the Als will continue that push in free agency. I suspect they will sign very few but they will be on defensive side of the ball.
I think they are and I would too.
If they don’t sign Canadian receivers they are crazy. They need depth there more than anywhere else.
Not disputing any of that. I was just responding to your point about them “rewarding production.” I think they are being selective about how and whose production they reward, based on the moves made since the end of last season.
I expect there will be a training camp battle … 2024 was nice but 2025 was disappointing … Als can’t just hope for a rebound.
Here’s a crazy idea. Given that we might be well-positioned to start more than the minimum eight Canadians, is it possible that Philpot could be backed up by an American?
If we’re planning to back him up with a Canadian (aka keep the spot Canadian even through injury), then yeah, they have to upgrade our receiver depth. I do not want to see Cibasu drawing in again, even less Oladejo.
Gaillardez could be good enough to do the job.
Si les Alouettes ne signent pas un agent libre potentiel comme receveur N, ils en repêcheront définitivement un pour avoir une véritable compétition au camp d’entraînement.
There is also the possibility that Hakeem Harris takes a step forward this year. But I do agree that we need as many viable options behind Philpot as possible. Last year, it was painful when he was out of the lineup.
