:als_red: Alouettes 2026 Talk

I am concerned this year about our receivers. I hope to be proven wrong, but Danny’s approach – whether calculated or just the result of players not choosing Montreal as a destination – is not setting us up for success in 2026.

I’m somewhat less worried about the defensive line, because we do have some good prospects and the need is a bit less dire, assuming Moose is healthy, but we still have question marks.

C’est réaliste, à date, moins que la note C de Toronto selon M. Ferguson.

Un ajustement de la note de M.Ferguson, c’est parfait.

Les Alouettes sont ainsi en avant de Toronto au classement…comme la fiche 2025.

I don’t necessarily care about making a big splash in free agency. We are a well-built team that was within one Shea Patterson fumble of maybe winning the Grey Cup despite our QB1 playing on one good leg. So we don’t have to sign everybody and his brother to “highest-paid at position X in salary cap era” dollars.

But as I said before, receiver and D-line are areas of concern and so far we haven’t really addressed those areas. (Sterns is not seriously a replacement for Mack.)

Harvey has been throwing around money like confetti, yet so far hasn’t re-signed Gittens Jr.

I’m not sure what that means. Does Harvey not rate him highly or is Gittens being unrealistic in his demands?

To me Gittens is kind of our last hope in salvaging our receiver room.

Memo to Danny: Pay the guy!

I will say that I have warmed up quite a bit to Crum now that he’s an Alouette officially. I’ve been kind of lukewarm on him. Seemed like a version of Caleb Evans and that didn’t excite me. But I can see the benefit in having a QB2 whose style is very similar to Alexander’s. Much less to change if he has to come into the game. And Crum hasn’t exactly had a ton of stability in Ottawa, between multiple coordinators (KJ then Condell) and an overall team that hasn’t been able to get the job done. So maybe coming into a stable structure will help him focus and find another level to his game.

C’est un receveur du type ce T. Snead mais pas avec les mêmes résultats.

C’est un receveur pour la profondeur du club et pas un receveur # 2 ou 3, c’est plus un receveur #4 ou #5.

So I was thinking Gittens was a guy someone had signed and he just wasn’t announced in the tampering window, but that isn’t the case. I’m beginning to wonder if he is hurt or teams have really gone off of him? On the surface of things he should be signed by now. The fact that he isn’t really makes me wonder, especially with Neuld and O’Leary Orange signed. Feels like something is up there. He didn’t have the big numbers to demand the big bucks.

You can’t build a football team through free agency.

He’s a replacement for Rambo and Mack’s contribution the last season and half did not come close to matching the cap hit unfortunately. I think he will do great with Fajita.

Sterns is Snead size but not Snead talented; there is no way he can replace Rambo at boundary wideout and be productive. If Danny thinks Sterns can fill Rambo’s spot without drop off, he’s dreaming.

Mack not matching his cap hit is fair but also a separate issue. (though his production was honestly not much below Philpot’s!) It’s what he did with those yards and situational plays. Lots of key second-down catches that extended drives.

Not to mention he was not playing the same position when he had his good season.

Ultimately, our QB situation in 2025 was a complete poop show. Our QB1 missed over half the season to injury, our QB2 by everyone’s agreement didn’t perform up to expectations, and then injuries took out QBs 2 and 3 and forced us to start QB4, who was miserable. Hell, even QB5 and 6 dressed!

To hold one receiver (Mack) accountable for lower production in that season but not everyone (i.e. Spieker or Rambo or even Philpot) is nonsense. Yeah, Mack was getting paid big (for the time) money, but he couldn’t control DA’s hamstring being injured, the coaches using him as a decoy at field slot for most of the year, or the very underwhelming performances of MBT, Evans, and Morgan for 10 GP. When DA was healthy, Mack was productive.

Philpot would have probably finished the season with comparable stats if he hadn’t had that insane 200-yard game with MBT against SSK.

Twenty-four… welll 23 since QBs don’t count

I think they are very high on Owens and Rambo will be back eventually

Philpot

Snead

Rambo

Owens

Sterns

I’m more concern about our Dline (who is the most important position when you build a team after QB) then our WR group. We have 2 elite WR and we have an elite QB who can makes his receiver better
