Arena Football Leagues

There’s a new International Arena League setting up shop next month. I was pretty skeptical of it kicking off, especially with 5 teams scattered across Europe. However, a reliable source on Arenafan.com believes this league is legit and has some $$ backing behind it. There’s a team in Reading, PA called the Pennsylvania Benjamins. I may take the 2 hour trek for the home opener and see how much of a train wreck it is. I do like the fact theyre playing by traditional arena rules, as opposed to the “mini” NFL rules the IFL tends to play by.

I am a big fan of Indoor football, I follow IFL , and AF1, former NAL , but also the others, I wanted to go to a Pirates game when they were in Massachusetts, but I couldn’t, and now they’ve moved to Orlando! I’ll try to go this year to see the Albany Firebirds.

They have never tried it, but I think the 3 Downs format would be more appealing for this game, given the size of the field.

I didn’t know about this international league. Thank you very much for the information.

There is a league here in Toronto, but I live in Montreal and it has been difficult for me to go see a game.

I love this game and have a lot of respect for the players and coaches. I think they only make about $100 per game, and yet they still dedicate themselves to it. I follow some QBs and they are really very good. It’s a shame that Malik Henry wasn’t signed by the Elks.

Football season has quietly started with the Green Bay Blizzard off to a 2-0 start in IFL action. Really nice crowd at the Resch Center Saturday. Love seeing half the game on the Yahoo Sports Network. While I prefer the arena game over indoor, I’m glad to see some markets really taking to the game.

In a Facebook group the other day, people were discussing the differences between the rules of the two leagues. They said that the IFL is more professional, while the Arena League’s rules make it seem more amateur. Do you agree with that?

The IFL has less defensive restrictions and more of a running game, more akin to the outdoor game. They also have a rogue and 2 receivers in motion pre-snap as opposed to the arena league 1. I haven’t kept up with the 3rd (4th?) Iteration of arena ball as its the AFL in name only. With that said, I personally enjoy arena type football with the end zone nets over the more “traditional” indoor style of play.

I think I’ll be able to make it on the 18th—I’ll let you know! If you see a guy with a tan, Latin American looks, short hair, an Alouettes T-shirt, and thick eyebrows, haha, that’s me!
