Davis Payne was Daryl Sutter’s Offensive Assistant Coach in LA when they won the Cup together in 2014.
However, those Cup winning teams in LA were never known for their scoring prowess. In fact, they won their Cups with relentless forechecking, defence, and goaltending.
I’m sure Payne had a role in helping to win those Cups but was never particularly known as an Offensive Guru. Now I don’t particularly know what Payne’s role is in Winnipeg, but knowing his history, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a part in the Jet’s scoring drought.
Payne would likely have more success coaching on teams like Florida, that play a heavy, playoff style of hockey, and according to you, the Jets are softer than Cottonelle. ![]()
