Nope. Hell follows you north of the border too
It is somewhat murky, but the old cap already has in place an optional exemption for one position as I recall, I believe for one year. Any team can elect to use that in order not to have the salary count that year, although they still have to pay it. I’m not sure how long they have to wait to be able to do that again.
The whole thing is silly in my opinion. Teams don’t set out to hire the wrong people to manage and coach, but as we all know, sometimes it doesn’t work out. Penalizing a team for that is no fairer than forcing a team to carry a salary against the cap for a player that doesn’t work out, which they don’t have to do.
I’ve always said it should be either or inside the 10. Tack it on or back them up. Choice of the defense
I can see that logic, and with the 2027 field changes the 1PC will be a 47 yard kick unless one of the knock-on effects is moving it.
What I can’t stand about the current system is that 1 point conversions are made often enough that they’re the “default” and “safe” choice, even if the 2 point conversion is optimal in many situations. Making none of the conversions “safe” will make coaches actually think about which conversion they want and open up more fun scoring combinations.
Without being an XFL watcher, I believe that the CFL backfield motion allows for more interesting 1 and 2 point attempts, and the 3 point attempt seems like a lot of fun to add, even if it’s rare.
It’d be more fun if the kicker had a beer before every kick. Would be good for the sponsors as well.

The only kickers that would be hired are those weekend warriors from rowdy colleges. No lightweights allowed. They’ll take payment in beers instead of salary.
i’m a much better kicker when i’m drunk.
There is perhaps science / anti-science in this recommendation, though I can’t say I can endorse this practice for a real game.
Basically, the kicker can loosen up and increase focus to be in the zone before the kick, just enough of a kick from the beer to get that initial buzz, but not so much so as to lose balance?
Some recreational golfers can attest to such an out-of-body experience as well.
Unlike other positions and athletes, a kicker does NOT have to have peripheral or lateral awareness. They need laser focus on that ball and on the uprights or down field and that’s that. Now try not to get hurt making the saving tackle, and get your ass back to the bench and stay warmed up whacking that ball into the kicking net. And you are forbidden from speaking to anybody but the holder and the coach, but he does not want to talk to you, so shutup.
Alas, the life of a kicker, a lone wolf amongst some of the greatest athletes on the planet, along the boulevard of broken dreams he walks alone, only to find himself sometimes as a hero and ackowledged for a week by all!
Uh, nope, wait a minute, I feel strongly as does our entire crew that all such a payment must consist of a COMBINATION of hard currency, treasure, contraband (both legal and illegal versions), and of course, booty.
And we’ll fight you on this one on the high seas or anywhere too.
The value of a drunk kicker is very low. I can’t imagine that it’s anything higher than min wage. Give the guy a place to sleep and drink beers and he’d probably be chuffed.
more rule changes coming?
Awh…c’mon…we only think we do things better when we’re drunk. For an example; I’m an amazing MMA fighter when I’m drunk and I can provide x-rays to prove it.
THIS
I played bush league rugby for a few years and I’m pretty sure I can’t remember any of it due to pre game beers… definetly put me in the zone for kicking off!
Aye, me too Cold Weather Todd. If only we could go back and meet on the pitch, whether on the same team or not, a good time would be had by all.
Oh yea, good times ![]()
Can’t wait to see the new ball on the field!
High contrast in rain, fog, smoke and snow conditions! Refs and fans will love it. God center won’t need nearly as much time for reviews! TV crews will love it.
What can possibly go wrong?
it would help me see the ball better on the far end zone shot of field goals. Blends in with the crowd too much for me. I even sit 8 ft away from a 60in tv.
Either would contrast with the turf well. The view you generally get from both the stands and the cameras is a downward slope. Less so in the first 10 rows or so but still better than the brown. Spotting the ball in a pile up would be so much more. Even a blind ref would see if it’s a loose ball!
How many plays did they kill last year? The Riders alone lost two return TDs because of early whistles due to losing sight of the ball. Stew wants more TDs? This is an easy fix that hurts no one.
