Rider Free Agents 2026

Both those guys are dealing with injuries. They will either be great or six gamed all year.

Same could be said for any player any season though.

Shepley might be beat up. Reid missed last season with an injury. If i’m not mistaken he missed the WF in 2024 with the Riders as well. He did get hurt again in tryouts down south. Not sure if they are related.

Can’t see either player signed without a physical, can you?

Good point.

They both sat out 2025 with injuries. Believe a lot of contracts are signed and are conditional based on passing a physical. If either gets six gamed to start the year i guess we’ll know what’s what.

So we added a couple more players. A 2019 NFL 3rd round RB draft pick, Darrell Henderson Jr., who earned $4.7M during his stay. Don’t see any action for him since 2022. Enjoying the good life or what? Perhaps a covid issue? Lots of ways to speculate and spread rumours with this lol. Anyway wondering what he’s got left. Still young at 28.

Other is a DB fresh out of school. James Burgess Jr. Building for the future me thinks.

I like the look of the American DB and Olineman. The RB is going to be feathers

Article states Picton is ā€˜leaning towards retirement’ but I’ve noticed he’s no longer on the roster.
Big loss IMHO. Big reliable/versatile receiver who extended a lot of drives for us over the years.

A reliable and versatile Canadian back up that can start in a pinch. But I’m surprised to read his total yards are just over 1000 in his career.

Added another American Oline as well. Jaison Williams. Plays everywhere but center. That is a real plus. He allowed a QB pressure about once every 30 snaps. Will need to take that to another level. 6’4ā€ and 320. Not sure what is the best fit? A sixth or seventh in the lineup as a backup untill he gets his wheels under him?

A decoy that can actually play.

I used to think Picton wasn’t used to his full potential, but in reality he was. This 2023 article likely sums up his value better than I can.
He’ll definitely be hard to replace.

That article explains Pictons skill set well.

He’s a great teammate and very versatile which is a huge trait. but he’s not as highly skilled or impactful as what he needed to be in order to be a starter and that’s why he wasn’t.

Uh oh. Jorgen Hus is no longer on the roughriders roster list.

Any insight? He must be moving on from FB, no way the Riders would move on from him.

No insider info on my end but saw an article a while back stating he was considering retirement. I suspect he’s walking away while at the top. Not a bad way to go at all.

I’ve sent him a DM and will keep you all posted if I get any response.

In terms of replacements, you have 2 options;

  • Target an older FA like Aaron Crawford (CGY) or Mike Benson (WPG)
  • Trade for a younger Simon Chaves (TOR)

Could always bring in a rookie but that is probably my least favourite option.

Couple of rotational N guys were working on their long snaping last year. Writing was on the wall even then. After the GC his agent told the club that he might retire. They had plenty of time to check their options while leaving it up to him.

For the record I wasn’t implying that Picton would never be more than a back-up… The fact he was so effective as a plug-and-play receiver tells me he’d be equally effective as a starter.
I was simply implying that he had reached his full potential as a receiver who could be plugged anywhere in the line and be impactful.

No unsigned FA is shown on anybody’s Roster as they technically are not part of the team any longer.

He averaged over 11 yds per catch and 1.5 catches per game at seven games a year. The team clearly trusted him to fill in when needed.

This shows him as retired along with Shane Ray
