The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added to their special teams depth, signing Global kicker Alex Hale, the club announced Friday.

The 6-foot-1, 203-pound native of Gosford, Australia, joins Saskatchewan after a brief stint in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. Hale signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in August 2024 before being released in July 2025.

Hale spent six collegiate seasons at Oklahoma State University, appearing in 29 career games with the Cowboys, including 13 in his senior season in 2023.

That year, Hale emerged as one of the top kickers in college football, leading the FBS with 2.08 made field goals per game while averaging 9.0 points per outing, sixth among kickers. His 27 field goals ranked second in a single season in program history, and he tied a school record by making five field goals in a game against Kansas State on Oct. 6, 2023.

Hale was named a Second Team All-Big 12 selection and connected on a career-long 53-yard field goal twice during his senior campaign.

Before taking over as the Cowboys’ primary placekicker, Hale handled kickoff duties, recording 37 kickoffs for 2,274 yards — an average of 61.5 yards per attempt.

The addition gives the Roughriders another option at kicker as they continue to shape their roster ahead of training camp.

Not sure why theyre quoting made field goals per game as if he were a prolific scorer in soccer or hockey. FG scoring totals are just as much a function of an offense being good enough to get into FG range but not good enough to score TDs as it is for the kicker’s propensity to actually score on FG attempts.

The only stats that matter are FG% and range.
