Vancouver White Caps For Sale

@Mightygoose , who just made the jump on day one with a few of us, restarted this thread only hours ago on the old forum.

We just restarted some substantive discussion, almost never the norm when some bojack restarts an old thread, so I copy the new discussion here in the interest of easy transition items.

Bumping this one.

Apparently they need a deal finalized by the end of next year or relocation will be explored. 6 cities interested, including Edmonton oddly enough.

No word if the Lions will play at here

Aye, important update from one of our resident experts followed by a response here too…

Aerial aka Earl Goldfinger:

Looks as though the Whitecaps may be getting a new stadium. Posted below an interesting comment from this article from a fan:

”If tomorrow’s announcement will be that the Whitecaps will be building a soccer specific stadium, probably no one will be surprised (it’s about time). Whether putting a 30,000 person one out on the Hastings Racetrack (instead of on the edge of Gastown as once proposed) land is a good idea or not is still up for serious debate. I was at the recent BC Place thrilling semi-final with over 50,000 excited fans cheering on history being made who afterwards quickly dispersed on easily accessed transit or walked to nearby restaurants to continue the celebrations. How many of those people would easily and happily trek out to the very limited parking zone, transit desert that now surrounds the PNE to watch soccer in an open-to-the-elements stadium in pouring rain is anyone’s guess. I doubt however that record crowds would, especially with the existing infrastructure. During PNE time, the “special bus system” that is employed to take people from Skytrain the 3.7km up Renfrew to the PNE is laughable and extremely crowded (probably never ridden by any of the decision makers either). How long would 30,000 people have to wait to get on 50 pax buses? As a person who happens to live downtown, I still cannot fathom why FIFA allowed the usually “must be downtown” main fanzone to be located so far away from the core of Vancouver, removed from the stadium, and guaranteed to not be as successful by being stuck out there. I have suspicions that our local politicians have ulterior motives they aren’t sharing, or perhaps FIFA doesn’t value Vancouver’s participation as much so they acquiesced? what do you think?”

It sounds to me like you have done enough study of the situation that you should perhaps be in charge of these matters now, Earl Goldfinger.

But leave the traffic mess out of this, for nobody is going to solve that.

Look what happened recently in Toronto on an analogous front when somebody got stuck in traffic listening to TSN radio! Just don’t go there on local traffic!
