Not in the least surprised. We knew they wanted to can the forum back when I was a moderator! The previous admins āin chargeā of the forum were grossly negligent and incompetent too and treated the moderators with no respect. As an example, a major user ban was initially by the then-admin with 0 input from the moderators. That admin then resigned from the CFL and could no longer be reached, forcing us into a lengthy process to reinstate the user. Thatās just one example. There are other stories to share.
Since this new site is run privately by GG and not officially by the league, I can at last say what I actually think: that the people in charge of CFL marketing are idiots.

In all honesty im surprised it lasted as long as it did, most pro sports leagues dont host their own message boards anymore, why take any risk?
Having said that in a true āthis is our leagueā fashion they could have asked the current admin/mod team to help find a permanent solution and work with them to transition it, i.e. let them keep the board and itās users, etc. I realize thereās privacy concerns with that, but that could be easily handled with an opt in to the new site option or what not.
This is really poorly done, and many of the users of the old site will go to log in, not see anything, etc.
I wonder if the league would as least leave the link to the new forum on the old link, even with it closed.
So poorly handled, so CFL.

So if we are not getting badges anymore than why do I already have three in my collection?
According to my notifications I have already received a āWelcomeā badge , a āBasicā badge and a āFirst likeā badge . At this rate I will be getting more badges than when I was in the Boy Scouts .

This is what bothers me the most. Not necessarily shutting down the old site, because as you noted, that tech is ancient now and most leagues donāt have it. Itās the absolute contempt they showed for all the loyal fans who used that site for decades. No lead time, no consultation, no attempt to reach out with a transition solution, no recognition, nothing. Just āyour power is being cutā with a day to spare.
And then we wonder why this league canāt grow.
You make fans one at a time, and you lose them one at a time.

I donāt know how many people are aware, but a couple of years ago, we came THIS close to the old site being shut down. Why? The league had not been paying Discourse for the service for months and was ignoring Discourseās communications about payment. If GG hadnāt pressured the then-CFL admin to get off his ass and pay for the service, this shutdown would have happened years ago without any warning and no replacement.
Yes, this is how an apparently professional organization goes about its business.
After that whole fiasco, I came to believe that the league actively wanted the message board and its community to die.

Looks like forums.cfl.ca is down, I think I missed my chance to download my data off there. Sad since Iāve been on there since I was a teenager and used to go back and see what I thought of the league back then.
Thanks for the old forums PM, it wouldnāt have been easy to find this place without it!

You must have it in your browser cache or something,

Returns the same error as pinging an obviously nonexistent website.
