Actually, as in other marketing and business failure, you lose one fan, and they will tell at least five people about their bad experience, so you lose far more than one fan at such time because the bad word gets out faster than the good word.
I was expecting to come home today and reach it one last time, if anything to just see it blow up spectacularly in front of me, kind of like my last posts going out with a BLAZE OF GLORY over there, especially that political thread!
But nope, it was just lame no more access to the forum, even though there is still a link showing in the Secret Garden.
Captain Timbers and the entire crew of Pirate Sports Network made the short sail too.
I began to explain to Captain Timbers what happened during breakfast this morning, and it was a good meeting that went sort of like this too.
Paolo:
Aye Captain Timbers! The CFL did not want to pay their bill and so they had to disconnect the forum of viewers for our enterprise and …
Captain Timbers, interrupting:
Arrrggh that be enough of yar banter excrement ye matey. Mind ye words amidst yonder rations! Arrrggh! What be comin’ next ye matey?
Paolo:
Well there’s this new place on Discourse that looks the same and …
Captain Timbers, interrupting again:
Arrrggh. Chart course and set sail now ye matey. Wherever set for sailin’ yar high seas, the skies be clear and waters be calm, the waters look the same.
Well indeed this has been a good transition after a ton of work so far!
Let’s gather together now and give thanks.
And what a relief already all that we flushed away from the old place.
I’d like to see a few more friendly and good faces come over for the jump, but so many who were no longer active or just a pain, well, what a relief after that final flush by the CFL today!
For sure, Dark Theme is where it’s at, but let’s not tell too many people that Dark Theme opens up a new Secret Garden, lest we want another epically bloated Help Desk thread.
To honor the creation of Gridiron Football Canada, I am bringing back the long retired monicker of the most infamous poster in the history of sports posting in Canada - NASTY NATE - the 1 & only!
Banned from at least 3 sports websites, Nasty Nate was a fearless critic of the CFL’s social and moral fabric. The only fan ever called out by a CFL general manager. Glad I somehow escaped that noose. Others? Not so much!!!
btw, the original Nasty Nate character was fashioned on some old sportswriters I used to hear on TV and radio. One of them, a crusty old campaigner named Jim Hunt. The other a famed local yokel (Winnipeg) named Jack Matheson. Those guys go back at least 50 to 70 years. To update the character I threw in a piece of a now forgotten old sports radio warrior from the Ottawa area, known only as THE DANDYMAN.
oh great. another guy who thinks he’s cooler than my dog. how is being banned from multiple sites such a boast worthy feat? that’s like being proud of getting kicked out of multiple pubs.
On the other hand, we’ve had a few who appear to be new faces, maybe real maybe not, but they already seem better, plus I think it’s kind of fun to figure out those who are trying to sneaky, most of them sneaky bad anyway, for at least for a few weeks.
And I have no objection to anybody who truly wants to turn over a new leaf altogether and not carry any stigma with them, but it’s up to them to carry themselves with those self-imposed higher standards.
The CFL’s forum closure was handled the same way as the upcoming rule/field changes – no discussion, and no regard for what fans may think. For a league desperate for new fans they’re doing a helluva job alienating the ones they have.
Many thanks to @GridironGirl (and company) for putting this new forum together on such short notice – Cheers!
