They obviously saved the highest intensity for later in the elimination games and for the final, and this comment is only after one period.

what a great tournament. canada had the better game and missed chances, while americans capitalized.

Watching CBC’s presentation they were so busy slathering praise on NHL players like McDavid, McKinnon & Celebration they almost forgot Team USA won the gold medal.
Obviously, the big 3 guys were dominant but also the weight of the moment got to all of them. McDavid barfing up the puck in OT which leads to USA gold, McKinnon failing to put away a bunch of Grade A opportunities and Celebrini finally clenching up when the weight of the big moment got to him.
Canada outplayed USA from a possession point of view but also had tons of passes go off sticks, get poked backwards by tough U.S. forecheckers, etc.
If Hellebuyck played like that for Jets, Winnipeg would make playoffs every year and get to the second round before being discarded like yesterday’s garbage. Winnipeg just doesn’t have the guys to get any further despite a star goaler like Helly. For now, Winnipeg will celebrate 2 gold medals coming their way next home game w/ Hellebuyck showing off his medal, lightweight Kyle Connors, too!

The only positive about USA winning is Madman Scump won’t put 4000% tariffs on Canada for beating “his” team.
Note to Scump: It ain’t your team, 90% of the guys on Team USA hate your smelly guts. Hope Team USA refuses to attend Scump’s white house celebration. But they won’t - they’ll be pressure to bear on The Weasel Gary Bettman and Wayne Gretzky to bring the team to DC.
