I don’t see why Sutherland can’t start at SLB day one? DIV 1 school, spent years trying the NFL. If he were an international, it wouldn’t be a question.
This is why I think breaking Sutherland in at SAM, where we already have an established veteran in Murray, is the right call. He’s got a ton of rust on him right now after essentially 3-4 years on the shelf. We don’t know what his performance level is going to be like at first and neither does he TBH. So best to play it safe. We aren’t hurting for starting Canadians, so let’s bring him along the right way. He can play special teams to shake the rust off and then, as he gets more comfortable, start taking reps at SAM.
Josh Hoover université Texas A & M repêchage 2027
Probably because I wrote this yesterday (article author was tagged and read it as my post got a quick engagement).
While I wrote that I expect Sutherland to play at LB, I definitely don’t see him as a starter; could happen later in the season, but not at the beginning. Has not played regularly for 3 years and out of Canadian football for a long period. Possible injuries.
Richard
GCA is probably an exemplary case of a Canadian being brought along the right way, given opportunities over a two-year period without being rushed or held back. Sutherland is older, so he may not require two years of seasoning, but I think a year is in order given that he hasn’t played meaningful football in a long time.
The counter-example is a guy like Shanks, who needed less than one season to take McGloster’s starting job, but Shanks was coming straight out of school.
I will say that there are different valences to each word that muddy the waters a bit.
Complement (verb) means to add to or complete a group. But as a noun, it can also refer to the total number of a group. Best example is a military context: “This ship had a crew complement of 47.”
Compliment obviously means to praise someone. But it can also mean a free item. “Please accept these complimentary beverages.”
To me, it’s just another case of people struggling with homophones and the like. Such as its/it’s, your/you’re, to/too, then/than, and there/their/they’re. Or how certain politicians talk about the upcoming “erection”.
If QB Dustin Crum is not available. the Alouettes might as well -never expected to say this- re-sign QB MacLeod Bethell-Thompson at a reduced rate. $150,000. to $165,000. + incentives.
Richard
Not really the same. Its / it’s is an edge case, in that it inverts the conventional English use of the apostrophe to indicate possessive (that is, the possessive is without the apostrophe). The others are more basic literacy issues.
Complement/compliment is trickier because of the overlap between the use cases. That said, it’s a distinction a journalist, who writes for a living, should be able to make.
That’s true IF he plays like he did in 2025. But a second year in the system may produce better results.
He wasn’t great in 2025, but he did give us some key wins and put together a couple of great performances. Danny keeps saying the backup should win you at least 3 games. Well, MBT won us 3 games, and would have won a fourth if we had tackled a BC receiver 0.2 seconds later.
Well if we want a 38 yr. old just about washed up QB, I would prefer Jeremiah Masoli.
At least he has some mobility. And can do QB sneaks.
Anyone who wants Masoli didn’t actually seen him play in 2025. He is done, nothing left in the tank. May well transition to coaching.
To compare Masoli and MBT based on age alone is off-base.
I’d rather bring back Jonathan Crompton than pick up Masoli.
Frankly I’d pick anyone before Masoli, the only exceptions being Ted White and Bubba Marriott. Arguably George Bork.
Tavares Bolden? Chris “Gator Chop” Leak?
