Agreed. Sterns doesn’t wow me. And given that we lost Mack and are seemingly poised to lose Rambo, Maciocia & co. better have a good plan in place to make sure DA has all the weapons he needs to be productive.
Yeah Sterns doesn’t excite, although they might see potential in him as with Hollins.
Nevertheless WR free agency isn’t over yet. Hopefully more to come.
I think what they like: Proven 70 percent completion, young, coachable and can do the short yardage stuff as a backup, while working on his decision making and reading defenses. I like the signing.
Excluding the addition of Dustin Crum, nothing to write home about.
Richard
Even with the cap increase, I wonder whether anyone is spending their way into having to move out a veteran or two in whom DM might have interest.
Jerreth Sterns
Stats universitaires
Given that Mack is gone and Rambo might be too, I hope that Danny & co. treat 2026 training camp with the same urgency they treated 2023 training camp when it comes to receiver. We need a deep crop of receivers to compete for jobs and there will likely be multiple starter positions available: field slot (if Spieker doesn’t take it), 5-pack receiver (if Spieker goes to field slot), boundary wideout (if Rambo isn’t back). To say nothing of quality backup depth across the board, including but not limited to Canadians.
And no more Jordan Veasys, please. Anyone who signs here should be crystal clear that their job is to fit into the offence, and that no one is guaranteed anything – playing time, starter position, or targets.
A story re Lemon. Can’t this happening. Shawn Lemon won't be back with Montreal Alouettes, but wants to keep playing in CFL - 3DownNation
Oof. I will always respect Shawn and what he did for us in 2023, but this is a bit sad. He is not the same guy he was a few years ago and was pretty much invisible last year when he finally came back and played. Maybe a team takes a gamble on him, but it won’t be for any real coin. If I were him, I’d try to move into coaching instead. This is a brutal business. You love the game, but it frequently doesn’t love you back.
Yeah I shied away from calling it sad, out of respect for Lemon, but he was invisible last year when he came back. Coaching really is where he should be focusing IMHO. Interestingly, the info for this story came from the winter meetings, which ended two weeks ago!
Right now the position, clearly is not a strength of this team and definitely the least imposing group in the league.

Great news on Dequoy. I have to say, I had pretty much given up hope, but it’s evident that he realized it was either Montreal or retire.
With Dequoy back for another year, I will be very surprised if we don’t see two things:
- Murray dressing as a DNA so he can share SAM reps with one of Beauchemin or Hamlin.
- Sutherland sliding into the Jack linebacker role previously occupied by GCA.
Really excited to see how our starting ratio shakes out this year. We should be a LOT more flexible and more effective in how we start our Canadians.

I don’t know about least imposing. Hamilton took some hits, notably White leaving. IF Philpot can stay healthy, he and Snead give us a dangerous combo, almost 1A and 1B at receiver. But after them? Tons of question marks. Spieker has a golden opportunity to lock down a starting four job so we’ll see if he’s up to the challenge. Then it’s a whole bunch of rookies unless Rambo returns, and even then, we need quality depth urgently.
As crazy as this sounds, Dequoy better come to camp angry. I see a world where he doesn’t make final cuts.
