Maybe they are confident in Theis as well and have their eye on a new American to fill the job. Expecting Dedmon to play a full season, or even two-thirds of a season, is silly given his injury history.
I suspect Letcher made the decision to not return, or demanded too much money, and DM reacted accordingly … don’t think they walked away from Letcher because Dedmond became available
Something definitely happened between Letcher and the organization. I wish I would have took a screenshot of what he wrote during Grey Cup about his displeasure of not playing
Well, it’s impossible for us to know, but given that he fell out of favour late last year, getting benched in key situations, I still think something must have happened to make him not want to return.
Would love to unearth a real speed guy from the new American receiver crop so we have a viable plan when, not if, Dedmon gets injured.
Als will sign (technically agree to terms) Dustin Crum.
Cue the Crumback jokes!
In all seriousness, I guess this is an OK signing, but I don’t really see much to be excited about. I suppose his skill set matches DA’s in a way, and he can do QB sneaks. So yay? This is the end of Caleb Evans and probably MBT in Montreal, I imagine.
Not Tre Ford, but a good signing. A 1 year agreement. I presume that Ford was asking too much.
Richard
Frankly, the biggest upside to signing Crum is not signing Ford. Not that I would have hated Ford, but Crum is younger, has proven a bit more, and is hopefully more coachable.

Une très bonne acquisition définitivement un + versus M.B.T., vieillissant.

I’m really hoping that Crum as QB2 means that Maas & co. will run him Streveler style if he has to start. Lots of QB options, heavy run game, mixed in with some passes. Basically how they played Caleb Evans that time he started in 2023. Play to Crum’s strengths and make teams have to play sideline to sideline to defend him, while pounding the rock inside with Scott.
Ottawa was hoping that Dustin Crum would eventually learn to keep his head up and look for open receivers when he was forced to scramble. Instead, Crum always tucked the ball and ran. Pretty sure the Als will not be able to change that habit.
I dunno. The guy in charge of developing Crum in Ottawa got fired (Condell). And it shouldn’t be forgotten that it was our coaching work that allowed Cody to elevate his game in the 2023 Grey Cup.
I’m not saying I guarantee Crum adapts but it’s worth a shot. We have to teach Davis a similar lesson – not about looking to throw on the run, but about staying in the pocket longer, progressing through his reads, and learning to check down. So maybe that’s the mandate this year with all the QBs!
J’espère que A. Calvillo pourra l’aider à s’améliorer.
Still 2 good National receivers available. Kurleigh Gittens Jr. -Edmonton- and Dejon Brissett.-Tor.-
Long shot but Global DL Baldonado-Sask.- available.
Tre Ford may end up in Hamilton after all.
Will Danny announce the re-signing of Marc-Antoine Dequoy today?
Richard
Count me as happy with the Crum signing. Hope he isn’t required to, but he can win you 3 games.
Yes, at one time he was just scrambling. But as the season went on he was turning into an effective passer. And no reason why he can’t develop further.
Now we need either Brissett, Gittens Jr., and I might even be happy with O’Leary-Orange.
Yeah agree Sheldon. He had 6 TDs to 2 INTs and definitely got better this year as a passer. I don’t hate this move. I would have far preferred us to sign Joe Robestelli as a recover than Sterns. Getting smaller at receiver isn’t helpful. Maybe we pick up Brissett or Gittens Jr.
I also wonder if what is really going on with Deqouy is that he is pondering whether he keeps playing or not.
Yeah, at this point he’s either waiting to see free-agent options or pondering retirement. If he wanted to re-up with us, I think the contract would already be done.
