Was hoping for Allen (WLB) or McManis or Santos Knox for MLB and with Hladik gone and players being resigned who knows if these 3 will make FA

Teams know full well the value of their own free agents, especially Canadians coming off a good year. As much as we want to say we will pick up this guy or that guy to replace someone or help our ratio it really is a rarity when a big name player like Lawler becomes available and even then there maybe 4-5 other teams who will put out offers as well.
As a GM you have the most control over signing back your own players and not leaving yourself in a hole where you might have to rely on rookies, draft picks or a guy nearing the end of his career who you hope might recapture some magic.
Lots of work to do here in Hamilton.

I’m just saying if we don’t sign a vet like santos Knox or McManis or even Allen for WLB if no LB is signed for our LB we might as well kiss our run stop game good bye because you know if u don’t upgrade DL or LB it will be th same before and losing Veresuk def don’t need a rookie starting at LB

And when those guys get to free agency, teams typically overpay.
Edmonton gave Steven Dunbar $210k at a time when Tim White got the same. It was always a bad contract. But teams not paying QBs big coin have money to throw at guys especially with non guaranteed contracts.
Free agents always cost more.
We overpaid for Lawler, but now that deal looks fine. Next year he’ll command more. He’s shown he typically takes the largest offer so I’d expect that to happen again.
This offseason I expect to see some guys get much more than we’d expect.

I think they’ll try to get a linebacker and defensive tackle if they can in free agency. Possibly a Canadian receiver. The options will keep slimming out though. Veresuk or not they should have went hard after Sankey when he got released - perhaps they tried but that would have solidified the middle for us.

I know this is non ticat cfl discussion but the stubbfield deal last year 3 years / 500 looks like a great deal now considering what ppl are getting

Stubblefield is still about at current high end market value. The SAM linebaker is essentially an extra DB.
Stubs made 150k last year, so roughly 350k over the next 2. That is basically the same money Peters is getting over the next 2 years.

And he is worth it. He is a top-end SAM linebacker and should be paid as such. Still young, too. He could play at a high level for another 6-7 years.
He just needs some help in the linebacking corps, with Veresuk gone.

With Sankey signed in BC could mean Awe could be traded as a possible option according to the article.. I would even be ok trading some picks or something to get him if we can’t land a LB in free agency
You could do worse. Awe certainly plays on the edge, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want from the MLB position.
But on the other hand if he starts costing penalty yardage, then I’d cut bait pronto.

Well it would be a big ‘No Thankyou’ from me when it comes to Awe . A great player but without a doubt the most dirtiest player in the game today . There is a reason why he has played on 6 different clubs and has been bounced around from team to team to the tune of 9 different times in his career .

I normally find the accusation of a player being dirty to be overblown and a unreflective indication of how certain positional groups get unfairly labelled, because all their “crimes” are at the point of attack (aka caught on camera) and they are paid to hit/hurt people (linebackers and DL). In Awe’s case, though, I think the label is justified. He’s been a helmet-to-helmet, late-hit guy for years now.
In fairness, it seemed like he stayed out of trouble in 2025 for the most part. So maybe he’s finally learned? He’s sure not someone I’d be itching to have on my team.
