I’ve not seen anyone be explain the benefit of this or a proposal of how this would actually work in a way that makes sense.
Which is the main reason they dumped the idea.
I’ll put this here
He’s back in the game
The Cap went up
the league’s 2026 salary cap, which will increase by $218,149 to $6,280,514
So how is that $50K/team for veterans in preseason going to work?
From the CFLPA
It probably means each team can pay veterans an extra $1500 ( or whatever) for the preseason games. In the past you didn’t get anything.
3 year growth of 31m.
Not bad for only 2 teams making money ![]()
I’m curious to know more about the numbers behind the 31m. With inflation the way it has been in the last 4-5 years is it we’ve growth? Or is it a beer is $15 not $10?
You’ll never get more info on it. Transparency and CFL have never been a thing
Obviously the League has been making money the last 3 years.
It should be noted,
This is the last season of the 3 year TSN/CFL $50M/yr annual contract
(Negotiated by Johnston when he was President of TSN)
I don’t think the 31 million in revenue growth (roughly 10 million a year) means more profit necessarily.
On average, each team has 1.15 million in increased revenue a season over the last 3 years. I’m guessing costs and expenses have out paced that number, or at least been close.
It’s great that the CFLPA worked revenue increase into their compensation formula. Good for them. Very Smart. I’m suprised the owners agreed to this.
I’m also guessing only about 4 or 5 teams are responsible for most of the growth.
WPG and SSK were the only 2 teams that made a profit
Yes, the only two teams that are required by law to show their books made a profit.
The other 7 privately owned that do not have to make any disclosures all lost money.
Why I’m usually going to side with a player in negotiations. Owners are practiced liars at crying poor.
I don’t think that any of the multi millionares that have invested in the CFL are there to make money!
There are much more secure/lucrative investments!
CFL owners that have invested into the CFL are there because they love the game,
And we should be very grateful, they put the game first and foremost.
I believe the owners, If they make any money,
Re-invest that money back into the team/league and community
I’m no accountant, but I believe if there’s losses on paper they can use those to offset gains from other investments too from a tax perspective.
