Free Agency 2026

But McManis might follow Dinwiddie to Ottawa, where his old coach Willie Fields is the DC.

Strong MLB play can mask deficiencies on the D.

Jameer Thurman played amazing for us and we didn’t resign him.

Santos Knox was excellent for the Ticats.

Seems like we get guys and let them go.

Honestly this is what I picture when people are talking about replacing all our young developing players.

Agreed . It seems like we have a new starting MLB every year lately . Absolutely no stability at the position whatsoever .

Let’s assume Veresuk will be 20% better this year ( or whatever number you want to use)

Do we still want him demoted to backup?

Truthfully he might sign an NFL futures contract anyways ( he physically has all the tools for the NFL) and we’ll have no choice but to move on from him.

Plan A was never to have him start. it was a move made out of desperation that did not help a struggling D.

I love his potential, and a great back-up option while he learns the pro game.

BUT

I do not want him as Plan A for 2026.

It was plan B after #97 got injured.

Veresuk in 2025 is not going to be Veresuk in 2026.

I think we much as it was not plan A to have him start in 2025 I think it absolutely was in Ted’s plans to gave Veresuk start in 2026.

They saw him as more of a special teams piece for his rookie season. Special teams in the CFL is how rookies get more involved in the pro game. The thing is, he was playing a lot better than Kyle Wilson was at LB, so they cut him and gave Devin the starting job. Sometimes it just works out that way.

What about Braxton Hill as an option? I thought he played really well when he started getting inserted into the lineup for the 2nd half of the season.

Agreed. I think he is excellent.

How committed are we to have a MLB , or any Linebacker , a Canadian position?

I think him and Fisher will battle it out at WLB.

I don’t know if it’s so much that we need to be committed to a given position being a Canadian position so much as it’s a roster requirement to start a certain amount of Canadians and this is one of the positions where the drop off between American and Canadian options is smaller than elsewhere.

If not Veresuk at LB then which spot gets filled by a Canadian who wasn’t starting already?

Can Veresuk play at an LB spot other than the middle?

We can play a Canadian at the spot occupied by Shemar Bridges?

34 receptions could be duplicated by BOO or another FA signing.

He can play the WILL, but Fisher and Hill have looked good there.

I think that’s the one that makes the most sense to have a 3rd Canadian WR because Kiondre Smith has proven to be a viable 2nd option in the offense. The issue is the depth. BOO wouldn’t be the one replacing Bridges as he was already the second Canadian starter so you’d have to re-sign BOO and then plug in TT or Bruggeling as the 3rd Canadian WR. Or draft a guy like Cenacle or Demontagnac and plug them in there.

Speaking of Canadian receivers Kiondra Smith is still 23 years old…just a baby

Going on 26 this January…

Yeah that roster is always riddled with mistakes. It’s weird because you’d think it would be easy to maintain correctly
