New CFL rules discussion

Feels like facing to the pressure. A step in the wrong direction if you ask me.

I recall them saying something to the effect of they were still sitting out the final 3 minutes when they were asked about it at the time of the rule change announcement. I remember StewJo talking about how he thought they had the best 3 minutes in all of pro sports or something like that. I don’t know if it was caving to the pressure so much as they didn’t know what they were doing for the final 3 minutes when they announced the other changes.

Yeah, I recall that nothing was decided for the last 3 minutes and that and other details were going to be ironed out in the competition committee.

I can see how some say the league is caving to pressure and I think these recommendations will be rubber stamped even if there are some on the board who don’t like it.

These changes will be for the 2026 season and how the play clock is run inside 3 can be reviewed any off season.

Final three minutes is iconic for the league and just needs to be managed a little tighter.

Side note. Was listening to the SportsCage and heard an interesting take on everything. One commentator suggested that the reason for all the changes is Not because the game wasn’t exciting enought as is but Rather that the BOG feels that franchise values aren’t increasing like they’d hoped.

That would explain a lot and perhaps they collectively willing to tinker to see if they can change that.

Iconic is the perfect description. O love the last three minutes as is. The field size rules don’t bother me. Goalposts changes is plus side and minus side. I’ll miss the missed kick returns.

The politics and the sales job tends to PO me. Earlier in this thread there was a post which pointed to a top ten list of plays posted by the CFL on X. Three of the plays were missed FGs returned for TDs. The league took the list down and replaced it with a top ten list that didn’t include missed FG returns. After that embarrasing move they removed the top then list and replaced it with a list of Lawler catches.

I’ll move on from this but they should know that people are actually watching.

Not nearly enough unfortunately.

Blah blah blah …something something …window dressing …

Johnston, the Trump of the CFL.

Not even close. Nobody’s life is threatened by Johnson. It’s just a game for crying out loud.

Relax. It’s a joke on his management style. Especially when he announced the new changes to the CFL game. He said all the experts agreed with the changes and the data that support them. Yet we don’t know who these experts are and the data has never been released. Sound familiar?

Unpopular opinion - They will have the clock rules right for the best of the game.

On the matter of no more ties, like one person stated, low-hanging fruit and nobody cares, especially as few as there are ties.

Decent point but still a shitty joke …oh well, of course they don’t all land

I can’t say I disagree.

The train for changes in rules has already left the station for 2026, and it will go forward for 2027, but the question does remain how far. We won’t find out definitively until the next off-season, in my opinion.

That sounds like fake news!

Almost as bad as three runs and a punt lol.

We know at least one of those “I am canceling my tickets, for I was NOT consulted!” beet-red angry people did make their way here from the old place, but I wonder how many of the rest?

I’m hoping they either drowned or washed away like so many who were either rare commenters or only had “drive-by” comments at the old place.

Here’s looking at you dopes if you are lurking!

Tons of Rider fans dumped their season tickets a couple years ago. They went from 30+ a game to mid 20’s because they weren’t happy with management. Didn’t stop them from venting in the forums and i’m pretty sure it added up to many millions $ the past three years. People will watch on a game to game basis but the full committment probably will be a while in recovery and i really don’t expect 4dn fans to pick up the slack.
