NHL 2025-2026 Season

In the current NHL, any salary under $1.5 mill. is essentially an honorarium. With just over half a season left, the Habs, should they offer Fleury $2 mill. would only be on the hook for just over a mill. Pocket change for today’s NHL. And a chance for the Great Fleury to reprise his role as one of hockey’s great goalers, whether as mentor or game-saver.

As it is with all teams who are not playing well, there are guys who are outstanding despite all else.

If you want to simplify Winnipeg’s issues at the moment, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines together have as many goals as the first line.

Toronto - something is wrong in the dressing room. Does Treliving have the stones to fix it?

They did too good in that trade……

That he was! Also, a stint in mental health exclusion.

Even my non-hockey friends watched him play and commented - he’s got a cannon for a shot but doesn’t seem to like skating, back-checking or getting within six feet of the boards. May as well take away his skates and give him broomball shoes for the balance of his career.

After watching him with the Habs (when he actually has played) he is the slowest forward on the ice. May as well be in broom ball shoes.

The woeful Jets dropped a heart-breaker to Top 3 Minnesota last nite, on home ice, and a welcome sold-out crowd of 15,225. Great job ticket people!

However, the warts are still hidden in the fabric as they allowed the tying goal with 20 sec. left after Dylan DeMelo took an unnecessary cross-chek penalty if front of his own net, allowing for a 6 on 4. Minny wasted little time gaining the tying goal.

Minny is just bigger, strong and better coached than my sad sacks.

As far as trades are concerned - little chance of it happening as Wpg GM K Chevyldayoff is far too worried about being held hostage for a bad trade. But he now has 3 great assets to package, in a final push to improve a poor to sub-average team. They are:

  1. Wpg.’s #1 pick in the 2026 draft. That would be Gavin McKenna. Teams are drooling to get this kid. McKenna is nervous as a cat in heat about being drafted by a poor organization like Wpg (great at everything but hockey).
  2. Cole Perfetti - the diminutive, fresh-faced cherub who looks like a lost rookie out there. Perfetti could be packaged with the #1 pick for a strong array of players. . . . . but only if he’s tethered to the Grand Prize, #1 draft pick.
  3. Connor Helleybuyck. Yes, he’s perennial goaler of the year but so what? Only had a .755 stop average last nite in Wpg. He’ll be 33 next season and again, he might yield a nice haul of prospects and actual NHL players. Jets just have to draft or trade for a fresh face in net, say goodbye to a great player but only because they need to save the organization.

I’m not putting out names that Clem Kadiddlehopper (Chevy) might get for the list of 3. But I suspect Elliotte Friedman of CBC/Sportsnet might have some juicy rumours during the Olympic break.

Btw, Helleybuyck let in the winning goal in OT, 39 ticks in on a clear snapshot from 25 feet out as Matt Boldly put it past Goalie1. Just before the Minny Goaler, a career backup and spot starter named Wallstedt robbed Mark Schiefele of the potential game-winner. Too much is said about how Helleybuyck is NHL royalty. Maybe just a royal pain.

I learned not to talk about the Oilers here. Apparently they still suck despite 9 Stanley Cup appearances…..

oilers don’t suck but their goalies sure do  but hey, they are leading the pacific again!

personally i don’t care if you guys talk about your teams but the endless jets rants are a bit much. jets pilots are now tank drivers. at least now canucks have more canadian company in that race.

The 2026 draft isn’t really that strong
McKenna(LW) is the concensus #1
But after that, the next 6 or 7 are kind of even
The top center is ranked #5
I don’t see this is a great year to go full on tank

But they leapfrog both Chicago and the Jets in the standings with a win tonight……

Its well known Pionk is not the sharpest knife in the butter knife drawer!

Looks to me like they already did.

Most of us will know the most about our own teams. I actually like reading the perspectives of passionate fans about their teams. It helps me learn more about the league as a whole.

Much more preferable than dealing with bandwagon Toronto fans. The ones who only cheer when the Leafs are in the playoffs, but then during the game ask you to explain the Off-side rule.

i like hockey but i’m nowhere near the fan i am of football. i basically only watch hockey when there is no football on. doesn’t really matter who is playing, i prefer a football game.
