The middle of the D needed the upgrade.
DT and MLB
I am sure we will get the MLB improvement, not sure where the DTs will come from.

According to a report from 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk, quarterback Tre Ford has signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Johnny Augustine is not the answer as a starter at RB. I’m not suggesting that anyone is promoting this idea either. just my two cents…
He has a very athletic build but still lacks the ability to make hard cuts and power up the middle. I really concentrated on his play last year and he is fine in the open field but can’t get it done in the pile. He can’t block for Bo either unfortunately.
I’m hoping one of our prospects can run and block effectively. There are a lot of talented running backs out there in the pipeline. BC got a sweet deal with Butler. He’s always hungry and is a true gentleman. Miss that guy.
Just thought i didnt see anyone post this… Troy and Steve sit down and discuss the roster for a good 48 minutes figure would share it.
What’s weird is that I thought I remember when we signed him that Augustine was great in pass pro. Can’t say I watched too much for that this year. I would gladly chip in if someone around here wanted to subscribe to PFF to get the actual grades on these things.
I think what we could see is Augustine being the nominal starter but then for 25 plays he comes out, Lawler plays as the Designated Nationalized American, and the American RB we dress plays. Then for a bunch of plays we bring in a Canadian TE (Bruggeling/Bell/NDD/Hosseini/Scott/
Rohan Jones) for Augustine and American RB in for one of the American WRs, or Ford comes in at RB for a wildcat change of pace. Augustine still plays the backup number of snaps but is the answer to our 7th National Starter. I’m sure there’s more ways to make it work but these are just the ways I thought of first.
You would think the brass would be more aggressive in FA and get Bo the pieces we need to win a GC while he’s still here. Im sorry but when he retires we have zero chance of breaking the drought unless we sign a proven starter with a pedigree. I just don’t see that happening. We need a real GM
With respect, that isn’t being the nominal starter, that’s rotating roughly half the offensive snaps in a game with another guy. So if you’re going to do that, you’d better be certain that the guy in rotation is actually good. Otherwise you’re making yourself weaker to accommodate ratio.
Are you talking about Augustine or the other guy?
Because if you mean Augustine, then no there’s no minimum number of snaps that he needs to play.
Thanks for posting!

I feel much better about the team after listening
Lots of time between now and TC
If the other guy (the DNA American) can only play a maximum of 25 snaps, that still constitutes a limit on Augustine’s snaps – probably around 25-30 snaps (given that you can expect 50-55 offensive snaps total in a game). So the DNA substitution rule effectively makes the Canadian in question platoon (split snaps) with the American. Which is not the same as being a “nominal” starter. Maybe it’s just semantics. My point is that it’s a platoon role so the Canadian in that role can’t be a scrub or you’re making your team weaker for roughly half the time your offence is on the field.
So that one type of substitution accounts for 25 snaps but then there are 2 other types of substitutions which also will take Augustine off the field. All of them combined will have Augustine not required to take more than 10-15 snaps. Ford can come on for him. Canadian TE can come on for him. Then there’s the short yardage package which as a jumbo package will have a lot of Canadian OL come on. The point being that he doesn’t need to play more than 10-15 snaps while the American RB can play 25-30. Not sure how you’d define “nominal starter” but that split would be how I would define it, personally.
That’s a lot of roster massaging to hide one of your running backs. Which I guess makes him nominal but isn’t ideal IMO.
It’s not necessarily to hide him. The main thing is to have another Canadian starter. He’s an above average backup IMO.
If you’re doing all these game day roster gymnastics to ensure he doesn’t take more than 10-15 snaps but is still nominally a starter despite being only “an above average backup,” purely to “have another Canadian starter,” you’re hiding him.
MTL did this with STE last season out of ratio necessity and it didn’t go well, so I am absolutely not taking any kind of high ground. More speaking from fan experience!
That kind of roster juggling is always sub-optimal. Hopefully a better solution presents itself.
I don’t think that’s true at all. Is it hiding someone to have 3 good DEs that you use in rotation if one of them is an above average backup but not necessarily an every down starter? I think rotation is good to keeping everyone fresh. If you’re going to rotate him in for 10-15 plays anyways then you might as well have him listed as starter and use Americans elsewhere IMO. I agree in an ideal scenario you have 7-8 starter-level Canadians and an every down workhorse running back but that’s not where the Ticats are at this point in the roster construction.
But then you’re doing that for rotation reasons, and yes, you are “hiding” him, because you don’t want him playing more than a certain number of snaps in specific down/distance situations, purely to keep the other two guys fresh.
But I will move on, since we’ve both made our points and I don’t want to drag this out.
Yeah I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree because I don’t see that as hiding him.
