The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Canadian receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr., per sources.

Interested to see how much he got and for how many years.

There’s not a ton of holes left on this team and there’s two good parts about the holes they have left. The first is they’ve brought in a lot of competition already (with more to come surely) for those holes and the second is that they’re in relatively unimportant spots.

RB is a place where we see rookies breakout all the time and they have Rountree, Watts, and Morrow with a solid Canadian backup.

WR5 (American WR3) is possibly the lowest stakes player on the offense and they have Bridges, Dixon, Malone, Matthews, Mitchell, Newton, and Taylor.

WLB is important, but they have a couple of guys who got some experience there last year leading a huge group of guys in Hill, Fisher, Wilson, Meed, Young.

I think the FO really doesn’t see the DB group as 2 openings on the less important field side left by Moxey and Amos leaving, I’m sure they see it as an opportunity for Walton and White to get playing time. But still they’ve brought in Bergeron, Bohler, Ford-Dement, Hayes, Junior, Stone.

The one I’m still nervous about is DT. They’ve brought in a lot of Canadian depth which is great to raise the floor but the starters are going to be some combination of Deen, Fox, Woullard, and Kendricks which doesn’t excite me in terms of the ceiling. Hopefully they will bring in some more guys before camp with 6 DT on the neg list currently.

I put Gittens Jr beside Lawler and moved Wheatfall to the other SB position

I’m not certain that Gittens, Jr would be a backup.

I would be certain Gittens was not brought in to be a backup.

He has the correct passport and over 1,600 yards receiving the last 2 seasons.

I never said he was back up… if you go by the beginning depth charts last year we were using 2 WR spots and 3 SB spots

Fantastic signing.

This wasn’t exactly a huge surprise, as many knowledgeable fans were throwing KGJ’s name around as a likely landing spot here in the Hammer.

Still though, it’s a giant relief that Gittens actually put pen to paper, and we can officially end the speculation.

I can bet my last dollar that Bo is currently grinning ear to ear. This receiving corps looks like it could be unstoppable.

I just hope our Defensive woes from last year are solved as well in order to complement what looks like will be a very high power Offence.

I mean who else has a better 5 WR group

We need a decent running attack now to compliment those recievers.

We don’t need a 1000 yard rusher, we need a couple of good blocking backs that can get 1000 yards between them, plus another 500 catching the ball.

Good faith question: How is rec corps better than last year ? Gittens ?

I think people are thinking that the step up from BOO to Gittens is bigger than the step down from White to Wheatfall. You’re allowed to think differently though.

It’s better in two ways.

Gittens is a legit Canadian starter and potential All-Star.

Except for Lawler, I don’t think anybody is making as much money as White was making. (I don’t know what Gittens is making though)

Wheatfall is not a step down from Timmeh. If you look at stats maybe. I think youll be surprised, but we will see

I wasn’t even necessarily saying that’s what I thought, but now you’re making me. If Wheatfall gets 4 straight 1000 yard season I will be very surprised. Hell if he doesn’t crack 1000 this year we’ll have our answer because the rest of the offense will be basically the same. And Tim will almost certainly get more yards than Wheatfall this year or more than Wheatfall did last year.

It’s perfectly reasonable to say that Tim was not worth the money or that Wheatfall will be a much better value, it’s also reasonable to say he drops too many balls, but I think it’s unreasonable to say Wheatfall is better than Tim straight up.

I’d guess most people on this forum had no idea who Wheatfall was a few days ago.
