Wouldn’t Ford’s twin be a Lincon?

Lincon? Sorry Grumps, but now I’m forced to ask you to return your spelling Bee red ribbon. :innocent:

Instead of thinking about player contracts in terms of raw dollars, it’s better to consider their value as a percentage of the salary cap.
For example, a player who earned $85,000 in 2010, which was around two percent of the salary cap at the time, would make $125,000 under the CFL’s current cap. Contracts worth $125,000 in 2010 would be worth about $185,000 today, and players earning $170,000 in 2010 would now be making around $250,000. The list goes on.

I think this is a good thing to keep in mind as well that the cap went up by so much last year but did so too late into the game that teams said they were operating as if it hadn’t increased. So functionally we ended up with the cap going up this off-season by like $750K.

Hopefully it keeps going up but I’d like to see the minimum salary increase too so the CFL can be much more competitive with the UFL for bringing in the highest quality guys who just missed out on NFL camps.

What’s funny is, and I’m guilty of this, is when I veteran running back ( for example) signs for 110k I go “that’s terrible , how can he make so little “, but if a similar back signs for 200k I go, “man how can they pay an American running back that much”.

Ultimately, this is all good for the league’s reputation if these salaries continue to rise.

Edit: something worth noting. A year ago the Canadian dollar was worth 67 cents against the US, today it’s at around 73 cents and projected to continue to rise to 75 cents by years end.

Ah, but that’s how my father in law, Dutch, pronounced it when he talked about his Lincon. It might be more accurate as Linconn or something. But, yes my spelling sucks, always has:grin:. Probably to late to worry about it now:joy:

What do you mean time to get up to speed? Same defensive coordinator as last year, even if Veresuk comes back it’s the same defense. Plus Linebacker tends be plug and play.

Plus good teams tend to play more Canadians. They don’t hide behind 8th Canadian can be a Veteran American rule. I jealous of Montréal’s Canadian talent

WR:Philpot

LG: Lestage

C: Lawrence

RT: Shanks

DE: Uguak

DE: Adeyemi-Bergland

MLB: Catin-Arkou

SLB: Sutherland

S: Hamlin

Their is a chance that Uguak will back up Adeyemi-Bergland, but even so that is great depth.

I think you mean the 5th QB. Teams tend to have the 4QBs, plus the intern QB.

I think just looking at guys who go down to try out the NFL and then come back mid season aren’t always in mid-season form because they haven’t played a ton of snaps and they haven’t played by Canadian rules. So look at guys like Austin Mack when he came back mid-season he didn’t go back to his pre-NFL form right away sometimes there’s an adjustment period and they hit the ground running the following season.

That type of depth has to be built up over a few years of making good selections in different position groups. There were some years where Hamilton was noticeably short of early draft picks (thinking especially of the year when we traded Edm for Saxelid and McDonald and neither one panned out but we gave away 1st or 2nd rounders). We have done reasonably well picking olinemen and safeties who are starting potential. Less so when it comes to receivers with Kiondre being the exception. Running backs, dline and linebackers not much to speak of outside of Veresuk. We have done a reasonable job of getting mid-round picks who become special teamers but that doesn’t help our starting ratio out. If Bagnah progresses a bit more and stays healthy this year we could be in a decent spot especially if Veresuk returns. Another one or two viable first and second rounders in 2026 and we may not have to scramble next year to sign a high priced free agent.

Yeah the BLM trade and the Jordan Williams trade also deceased the overall draft stock we had. The good news is that under Ted it did seem there was an increased importance placed on the draft, we’ll see how much the FO team he helped assemble keep that focus.

Our D-Line drafting has been absolutely way beyond abysmal as of late . It’s actually been an horror show with drafting endlessly dud after dud after dud on a continuos basis . Frederico , Bennett , Bruchbacher , DiAllo , Martin etc etc .

IF Veresuk returns, where would you play him? He won’t beat out McManis at MIKE, and I’m not certain he has the speed for WILL. Stubbs has a lock at SAM, and Veresuk doesn’t have the metrics for that position anyway.

One way I can see him starting is to convert him to DE, similar to what the team did with Montford. At a listed weight of 240lbs, it might be a consideration.

Special teams where he ideally would have played in 2025 had we had a better MLB. He may someday be a capable starting CFL MLB, but he’s not there today. Let him learn and grow and see if he gets there over time.

I believe he ran a 4.5 in the 40 during the combine. He’s a lot faster than you’d expect for a guy that size, saw him chase down a couple of qbs for sacks during the season.

He could probably rotate at Will with Fisher/Hill when we use all Americans on the line and could cover for injuries in case either of those guys or McManis go down.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s far from a finished product but he’ll only get better with playing time if he returns.

Okay thanks fellas . I thought it might be him because you can see what is an ‘O’ to start the name . The thing of it is that they have him listed as wearing number #99 on the current roster . He obviously must be swapping it out for the number #49 seen in the pic .
