2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics :olympics:

The only good thing I saw
was
When they brought the Gaudreau sweater out in the celly
with Johnny’s kids
:sad_but_relieved_face:

When the Americans took a team picture afterward, forward Dylan Larkin held Gaudreau’s son, Johnny Jr., and Werenski held his daughter, Noa.

Part of me wishes that they simply do this again every two years, for it was such a great tournament.

I’m going to have to figure out something better for viewing options next time too, for they are worse than say they were back in 2010 in Vancouver in this era of shitty streaming apps like Peacock.

The uniforms for USA and teams like Czechia and Slovakia were traditional in nature, but wow did I like the latest edition of each of the uniforms of Canada, Sweden, and Finland.

It’s a long way off with so much that has to play out well beyond the rink of course, but perhaps we can have the Russians back in 2030 and maybe with their classic “Villainous Reds” for older times’ sake.

The Rat & Sly Stone were better earlier in the tourney. In the gold medal game they appeared gassed, frustrated with tight American checking.

Going to be hard to watch NHL games again for the next little while after yesterday’s game.

100% about Bucky! Can you imagine thePost-Olympics trade currency Jets mgmt. have?

Any Top 8 NHL team with only average to slightly above average goal-tending would cut something off to get Hellebuck in net. Jets have virtually no chance in reaching the lowest playoff tear (wild card2) this year, all hope is false hope.

Trouble with a trade is a Top 8 team won’t be able to offer the Jets anything more than a later 1st round pick - ie. a developmental player. Plus, Jets mgmt & ownership are notoriously stubborn when it comes to making big changes. However, in this case, its called for. Jets are going nowhere with or without Hellebuyck - and now we learn Josh Morrissey’s injury is more than they counted on. He’s out a significant “chunk of time” according to the Jets. So its “KISS IT” time in Winnipeg.

It was a 1 gl game, Binnington played well, he let in 1 gl in regulation and that was on a total defensive breakdown allowing Boldy in all alone. The bottom line is Team Canada, outplayed, outshot and had more grade A chances than the US but couldn’t bury one, case close. MacKinnon wide open net, Toews wide open net and by luck it deflects off Hellebuyck’s stick, Celebrini misses a wide open net and of course the two Canadian clear cut breakaways that were foiled. In OT we all have watched enough hockey to know once that happens it’s anyone’s game, especially on 3 v 3, so much open ice. Hat’s off to Hellebuyck but i will also add that the hockey Gods were firmly in Team USA’s corner, thems the breaks.

No doubt in my mind The Great Nate was “psyched out” by Hellebuyck’s magic. Not only did McKinnon miss the net completely, he only grazed the outside of the left goal-post, perhaps 2 inches or more from scoring on a wide open Team USA goal.

However, a new theory has emerged. Even if McKinnon hadn’t suddenly become ‘nervous in the service’ and directed the puck into the middle of the net - Hellebuyck would have found a way to grow a new appendage and will his way to stopping the puck from going in.

In my modest opinion the medal ceremonies should have gone as follows:

Gold Medal - Connor Helleybuyck

Silver - Team USA Hockey Team

Bronze - Team Canada and the nervous boys

On the massive list of things I didn’t know

All born in the U.S., Jack, 24, Quinn, 26, and Luke Hughes, 22, relocated to the Greater Toronto Area in 2006 as young children when their father Jim took a coaching job with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies.

They lived in Canada until 2017

While in Toronto, the Hughes brothers played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, whose notable alumni include Connor McDavid and Sam Bennett, both of whom were on this year’s Canadian Olympic men’s hockey team.

Jim Hughes told NHL.com that the strong hockey culture present in Toronto helped all three of his sons to excel at the sport from an early age.
