I’m trying to stay positive and that there might be pleasant free agent surprises to come.
But the question that keeps popping up in my mind is if Maciocia is allowed to spend to the cap ceiling.

I find it interesting that some good quality players are still out there like Gittens Jr. and O’Oleary Orange. I’d be surprised if we didn’t sign one of them. I have no idea what our plan on the DL is because we need players there. Maybe Robertson takes a big leap this year?
Beating out Morgan is a low, low bar.
I too would be fine with Alexander, Crum, and Patterson.
As for why we’re not doing more, folks should remember that free agency hasn’t even officially opened yet. At this time last year, we had no idea Danny was going to sign Shawn Oakman, for example. He tends to operate pretty quietly.
We also don’t know who Danny has been in on. We might have tried to sign free agents and come up empty.
I think they will continue to go Canadian at both end positions (Berglund and Uguak with Archibald as the rotation guy) with Moose at one DT spot and then whichever of Roberson and the new Americans wins the other spot. There’s also Gabriel Maisonneuve, who might be ready to join us this year. But I agree that we also need free-agent help.

He was a major cog of the 2023 Grey Cup. This is the right decision. I suspect we will see him in the Montreal media in some capacity or other. Thanks M-A ! Best of luck to you.
I don’t think he is either. I suspect he’s somewhere between 4.5 and 5 million.
Yeah, I am worried that consistently cheaping out is going to bite us in the long term. Chronically underspending is no more desirable than chronically overspending. The cap space exists for a reason. Use it!
Go Alouettes 2026
R.Cibasu, C. Evans, C. Rambo, S.T.E.
Qui sera signé..
Only guy I want back from that group is Rambo. Wynn, I wouldn’t hate him coming back but he’s not any kind of long-term solution and his ceiling is pretty fixed. Would rather take our medicine early and give his reps to a younger American DT with more upside.
If we have to keep relying on Dylan Wynn it is a very poor reflection on our scouting.
He was way down on the PFF DT list at 55.8 with a pathetic 48.5 run defense grade. His pass rush was a bit better at 66.3.
Yeah, he was apparently good in the dressing room but the game is played on the field, not the dressing room.
There was rookie DT Nwankwo who was signed who looks promising.
With what is going on or maybe I should say what is not going on, it’s easy to think that Danny cannot spend more than the amount “fixed” by the Owner. Personally, I don’t think that’s the situation; yes, he won’t overspend but I still feel that Danny is not limited to how much he can spend, provided it will help the team.
When the season begins I feel that the amount allocated to the 2026 max. cap of $6.284 millions should range between $5.7 and $5.9 millions, unless Danny signs in the next days/months a few players-receiver and defensive lineman-in the $200,000. range each.
The large difference between the approved cap of 2026 and my projections is explained by:
-Bonuses in the vicinity of $200,000 paid in 2025 for 2026.
-Top paid players released and retired and replaced at much less than what they were making.
When a team pays bonuses in a year, but for the next year, it is important that in the next year the approved cap will be enough to cover the players at their top salaries for that year. Lest’s take the example of Philpot: For 2026 he received an increase of $127,000 to $275,000 over his 2025 salary; it will be $285,000. in 2027. He received a $100,000. signing bonus in 2025 for 2026, so THE IMPACT ON THE 2026 CAP IS ONLY $27,000. In 2027 he will be paid $285,000. and the IMPACT on the 2027 cap will be $110,000, explaining that it is important not to spend to the limiting the previous season.
Richard
Free agency hasn’t even officially opened yet. There is plenty of track between now and the start of training camp. Patience.
