Each year, two bonus selections at the end of the second round are given to the teams that had the highest percentage of snaps played by Canadians the previous year. These picks have been awarded to Edmonton and Winnipeg, giving them the No. 19 and 20 selections in the 2026 CFL Draft, respectively.
The 2026 CFL Draft is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Time to do away with the draft altogether. Let teams bid on the players they want and give players some say on where they want to go. Salary cap will take care of overspending or have a separate budget specifically for new National players that is a hard cap.
Itās certainly an innovative idea. I wonder if the owners would go for it because it sounds like the rookie contracts wouldnāt be capped. I also wonder if the union would go for it.
Not that Iām aware of. But if you think about it, we donāt draft any American players. Instead we identify prospects we like and put them on neg lists. You could do something similar or just make it completely democratic so a good prospect might have several options and be able to choose his team/the best contract offered.
Weāre only talking about 7-8 players a year. Teams should be able to identify their needs to improve themselves and make offers to players at specific positions or if theyāre exceptional athletes. No different in any other industry
