CFL Discussion Non-Ticat

Each year, two bonus selections at the end of the second round are given to the teams that had the highest percentage of snaps played by Canadians the previous year. These picks have been awarded to Edmonton and Winnipeg, giving them the No. 19 and 20 selections in the 2026 CFL Draft, respectively.

The 2026 CFL Draft is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Can’t wait to get this stupidity out at the next CBA.

Time to do away with the draft altogether. Let teams bid on the players they want and give players some say on where they want to go. Salary cap will take care of overspending or have a separate budget specifically for new National players that is a hard cap.

Auction draft. Interesting.

Just wondering if this method is used in any other sports leagues?

I’d be interested to know how this actually works.

It’s certainly an innovative idea. I wonder if the owners would go for it because it sounds like the rookie contracts wouldn’t be capped. I also wonder if the union would go for it.

Not that I’m aware of. But if you think about it, we don’t draft any American players. Instead we identify prospects we like and put them on neg lists. You could do something similar or just make it completely democratic so a good prospect might have several options and be able to choose his team/the best contract offered.

We’re only talking about 7-8 players a year. Teams should be able to identify their needs to improve themselves and make offers to players at specific positions or if they’re exceptional athletes. No different in any other industry

Saskatchewan could of lost half their team in free agency and they still would be ranked number 1.

They wanted to rank them third but were threatened with a law suit.

I also heard that there was going to be a wheat farmers boycott also threatened as well .

Presumably they give EDM a bump from FA signings. So why are they cautious with OTT?

The Elkimos always get the benefit of the doubt .

Ottawa being the best football town in Canada ? So is this the same Ottawa town that has seen their team fold at three different times in their history ?

Ninety per cent of the grandstand tickets for the BC Lions game against the Stamps on June 27 at a temporarily-enlarged Apple Bowl were sold after going on sale Thursday to the general public.

Meanwhile, 70 per cent of the grandstand tickets for the Lions game on July 4 against the Elks have been sold.
…
While the Apple Bowl has a normal capacity of about 2,200 spectators, it is being expanded to 17,500 for the two CFL games.
