Free Agency 2026

I swear some of these people think we can just score 50 points per game ( now with a seemingly depleted O-Line and no appreciable running game) and win championships with literally slightly moving pylons for Defenders…

Like, didn’t we all see that useless D last year get torched game after game with the exception of the East Final???

So kindly explain just how in the Hell the receiving corps is set ? At present time we have only two of our starters from last year signed in Lawler and Smith . The only other receiver from last year that we have signed is rarely used Tyler Ternowski . Our receivers are not even near close to being set . We have already lost White and have yet to re-sign the rest of our crew from last year in Bridges , B-O-O and Bruggeling . Please kindly explain how you would consider a position group with only 3 players signed with only 2 being starters as being set ?

So who’s left that we want? McManis, One of Gittens or Brissett, maybe Rhymes, maybe Coker?

No, but I think you need to evaluate each invidual players play. I think the GM and coaching staff are doing that. Pass defense wasn’t bad, we only gave up 21 passing TDs, which was first in league. It was also our defense that kept us in the Montreal game.

I was mistaken, I thought Bridges was under contract. We have our #1 (Lawlor) and #2 (Smith) options, under contract. If Bridges resigns he’s the #3 and will be moved to White’s spot, where he will see more targets.

Comparing Ford, who has proven nothing in the CFL, to Bo, who would have been a first-ballot Hall of Famer even if he’d retired before coming to Hamilton, is not useful IMO.

Good Lord…..if Fox and Kendrick are the starting tackles…….we’re in deep, deep trouble!!! What’s more bothersome is Fox is still around because he is on some cheap f’n contract.

If he comes available then he’d be a good option. Keep in mind the team is paying 3 starters on the oline over $200 k each so not sure they’ll shell out after picking up Lofton. I’m surprised they didn’t go after McGloster or even Tate. Coker got injured late last season in the game here in Hamilton - looked like a knee so may be a write off for 2026.

Pretty slim pickings at tackle after Ceresna was snapped up. They could look at Lanier but he feels like he hasn’t been a force in a couple of seasons. Pelley is another option to possibly help the ratio in a rotation with Dava and maybe Bagnah at end.

I get the sense Hamilton will make 1-2 impact signings and a lot of depth/shuffling after that. Don’t really understand the thinking coming off a first place finish unless they feel the scouts have guys in the pipeline.

My guess is our coaches are pretty happy with our D-line ( except for Sayles). I know many on this board want an upgrade but I think we showed signs in the last 3rd of the season that we could go with guys we have (except Sayles). Maybe we pickup Mauldin on the cheap and hope for a career resurgence?

According to Simoni, throughout the season our poor run defense had alot to do with our Linebackers being out of position.

If we can land McManis and move Hill to WLB, I think out Linebackers will be improved.

Today felt underwhelming, but I think we should be OK.

Oh ya they won’t get much help at DT in the free agent department. Gotta hope for a couple of signed rookies to shine in training camp and pre-season games to help fill the void.

Great…the “pass defence wasn’t bad” averaged giving up 27+ points per game last year and was holdover form the terrible Defence from the previous year…

But you think our GM and coaching staff are good at talent evaluation…

erm…yeah…

Winning in FA doesn’t always guarantee a successful season. Edmonton won FA last year

Brinkman

Ceresna

Smith

Tyrell Ford

Metchie

McKellar

Alot of it was new system and new players. Second year should be better. So glad some fans aren’t GMs or coaches.

Couldn’t agree more.

Otherwise we’d be starting 24 Canadians

Well there is “if you suck anyways” might as well start all nationals.

Gotta figure either McManis or Awe will be brought in.

Still a few National receiving options that are solid. Some reclamation projects at American receiver like Schoen, and Addison.

Unless something drastic happens with one of the DT FA deals falling through we’re looking at Fox and Kendricks still as the DTs. In terms of potential impact rookies they’ve only brought in Branson Deen (2024) and Caiden Woullard (2025) so far. Looking at the remaining guys on their neg list Mike Greene (2022) would be the most interesting as an older guy that could hopefully contribute right away. Everyone else is a 2025 or 2026 NFL draft class. Not that they wouldn’t be able to contribute, but being younger they probably have more hope of catching on in the NFL eventually so might not be ready to come up, and if they do they’re still new to professional football and might take time to hit their stride.

The CFL draft may also be slim pickings with Rene Konga looking more and more likely to spend time in the NFL. Aamarii Notice out of Coastal Carolina will likely be coming up soon, but I don’t think he’s a plug-and-play type guy.

@Pilsbandydoboy or anyone else want to know who’s left at the end of day one here here are the lists

Even though this is from 2024 seasons ago… Atleast if ford had to go in and his rec wasn’t open he could go for a nice run

Oskeeeddie wins this year’s Amazing Kreskin award. Called it a week before it happened.

Well done.
