Garbutt made $126K so he’s absolutely a candidate to cut, especially with Ossai’s emergence. Although with Ramirez leaving I could see them keeping him unless someone pops in camp (Ugwu, Hall, Bagnah, etc).
Fox makes less than $100K (I can’t find it reported exactly how much less than $100K) which is kinda just what non-rookies make, so I’m not sure how much you’re saving if you cut him. Especially because they haven’t signed too many DTs who might be able to replace him so far.
If Powell wants to play this year instead of sitting on the sidelines, he needs to sign with another team. If Bo is healthy, no one else is playing QB for Hamilton in meaningful football situations. That dynamic is probably why Powell will not re-sign in Hamilton
On the D-Line: Garbutt was hurt last year, but invisible when he played. Fox on the other hand was very disruptive at DT, imo. I never saw him take a play off, and he often pushed the pocket. If we can add another similar player to the combo of Fox, Ossai and Howsare, our D-Line will be even better this year. The coaches/management are doing a good job identifying players who underperformed (like Sayles) and cutting them loose, imo
Canadian running back Johnny Augustine, Canadian offensive lineman Jakub Szott, American defensive lineman Miles Fox, Canadian defensive lineman Owen Hubert, and American linebacker Brian Cole II will all earn under $100,000 in hard money this season, though Cole II can reach slightly above that threshold if he reaches certain incentives.
What other team gives him a different situation? I still think the Cats are his best bet after 2026. Milo and Coach O think he could just step in at this point. Danny Mac wasn’t a full time starter until his 6th season in the league.
What starting QB is most likely to get hurt?
Who’s going to offer him more money then the Cats?
My hope is he signs with the Cats and we are so dominant that he plays the 4th quarter of every game or Bo gets a week off when we start 10-0.
Winning a championship changes perception about a player. So does projecting positive personality traits real or imagined. White was introverted, occasionally sulky. Didn’t court fan love. Which isnt a crime.
But all of the above reasons means White won’t be particularly remembered that fondly.
Agreed. Though they have to re-sign Powell first. Might want to try and bring back Frost too.
Just looking through the neg list there’s kinda slim pickings for QBs there as well. Reed, Martinez, Garbers are all signed to other teams. Craig and Colandrea are going back to school. We don’t yet know who of the 2026 draft class (Castellanos, Daniels, Shapen, Strand) will be available and when. The only guy that leaves is Hank Bachmeier who was signed by the Lions last year and released.
This charge includes Roundtree III, Matthews signing, Wolitarsky release and Dolegala resign
Positions I can see us signing during FA
WR 2-3 cant see all 3 big names. maybe 1 and then 2 depth receivers. Have Smith and Lawler and one key receiver be our main 3 and then the other 2 with Ternowski being the other 3 unless u sign 2 and let the Americans battle it out for the other spot.
QB - depending on if we sign Powell
DB - 1-2 and using one of the Americans to play out for Moxey old job
LB - I think we either sign a WLB or MLB and have Hill/Fisher battle it out for the WLB position
2 Tackles - depending on if our 2 Tackles from last year come back or not.
RB - it will come down to Bell or AJ for that running back spot unless they go with neither and go with say someone like Stanback or another player we do not know about… who knows what management is thinking
I think Dolegala’s height is a real advantage in short yardage. Those extra few inches of reach that he has could very well be the difference between a 1st Down or a Turnover on downs.
I don’t think you’ll see Ternowski as a starting receiver. He plays pretty much every special teams play and is an absolute demon when he does. He’s a leader there and a critical piece. I expect he’ll be a depth receiver that they really hope they don’t need to play more than a handful of offensive plays per game.
